Media moved back into the rain by overbearing hotel security in Atlanta, who emphasized that we were on private property. We pleaded to be allowed closer to capture Bafana Bafana’s arrival at the hotel as accredited media but this is the best we got.

I therefore respectfully want to make it clear that I will not resign.
To do so would be to pre-empt a process defined by the Constitution.
To do so would be to give credence to a panel report that unfortunately has grave flaws.
To do so would be to abdicate the responsibility that I assumed when I became President of the Republic.
To resign now would be to give in to those who seek to reverse the renewal of our society, the rebuilding of our institutions and the prosecution of corruption.

ISSUED BY THE PRESIDENCY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
30 years ago today, at the adoption of our historic Constitution, then-Deputy President Thabo Mbeki declared that our Africanness would never be defined by race, colour, or gender. Instead, it is rooted in the truth that all Africans share a common origin and a common destiny. This document, a unique creation of African hands and minds, remains our guiding light toward a society free from fear, oppression, and inequality. South Africa belongs to all who live in it!
