Great day @ @LeedsMuseums ‘Any Work That Wanted Doing’ exhibit. We had a tour by the curator, activist & author Gill Crawshaw. She was interviewed for the podcast & for our website. We will share the write up & what we’ve learned for Disability History Month. #DisabilityArts

Imagine waking up on Christmas Day with nothing, no presents, no family, no support, temporary staff. I know first-hand what that feels like, and it's still happening today. That's why every year I do the big Christmas collection to make sure every young person leaving the care system gets a little something. It's the 4th year running, and I want to make it the best Christmas yet. #changeiscoming Children in care are still children.
At 12 years old, I found myself homeless. Crazy but true. I ran away from the children's home and never went back. The local authority stopped looking for me as did the police. The only solace I had at the time was linking up with other young boys to form a gang. It was survival and security. Never for criminal intentions. Gang culture comes from segregation, abandonment, and neglect. I felt safer on the streets. The system did not protect me. Some young people have nothing, so what's their alternative. There's no youth clubs, no sanctuary. Our youth are more vulnerable than ever before. We need urgent action in all these sectors, or we'll see more children choosing a life of uncertainty over stability.

New @BASW_UK Statement⬇️
BASW is deeply concerned about the DfE's intention to develop what we perceive to be inadequate & unethical standards for children in care aged 16/17.
These would be tantamount to institutionalised neglect in any other setting.

My friend Mandy has started creating these adult sippy cups to help bring more dignity to those that are unable to drink from regular cups. Please share and spread the word. https://t.co/9JUaDXWIGf
"#CountyLines dad" by SJC
BASIC awareness film about SOME aspects of parents/carers doing their best to #prevent their child being criminally exploited, despite the tactics applied by exploiters, and the 'rewiring' of young minds through the pressures applied.
