Excuse me, I think there’s been a mistake, I need to speak with the manager. I was supposed to be part of the in-group the law protects but does not bind, not the out-group it binds but does not protect.
HOLY SHIT BRO 🚨
Israeli minister Ben-Gvir parades kidnapped flotilla activists like captured animals in his sick propaganda circus.
No regard for international law.
Safety in cities is essentially a socio-economic challenge rather than a peace and order challenge.
Fill our cities with cops and best case scenario is there might be peace, there might be order - but there sure won't be justice.
the point of self-love is not to live without other people; it's to love yourself even when you don't feel their warmth in the same room. self-love is the satellite of other-love installed in you by everyone who's ever loved you, starting with the earth, sky, and your parents
one of the craziest parts of love is how it turns ordinary things sacred. a side of the bed. a street corner. a stupid coffee shop. suddenly everything is haunted by tenderness
a few days ago i realized i have a 15-year log of every book i've read—i started writing down every book i read in 2011. as i was combing through this list i would occasionally stop on a title and realize i couldn't remember a single thing about it, and this was 60% of the books
On #EDSA40, we asked: Who misremember the Marcos dictatorship? Are Filipinos suffering from ‘authoritarian nostalgia’? In this presentation to the Ateneo Law School, I use public opinion data to demonstrate that favorable recollections of the dictatorship (1) predate both the 2016 and 2022 elections, and (2) that these recollections shift sharply with elite cues aligning with the birth and collapse of the Marcos-Duterte alliance. The former shows the long tail of authoritarian contamination more than authoritarian nostalgia. And the latter reveals how central elite signals are to reshaping mass attitudes and memory towards the Philippine authoritarian past. I argue that these conceptual turns, contra authoritarian nostalgia, more effectively shows the important role of political elites in democratic backsliding rather than the supposed irrational yearning of ordinary Filipino for the good old days of dictatorship.
My big thanks to the Joaquin Bernas Center Student Corps for inviting me again to speak to aspiring Ateneo lawyers. I also extend my condolences to the entire Ateneo law community for the recent passing of their Dean, Joey Hofileña. And finally, it’s been an honor and a pleasure to share the podium with @AkbayanParty Representative @ChelDiokno whose dad’s death anniversary — of the great late senator Pepe Diokno — coincided with the date of the forum. Mula noon hanggang ngayon, buhay ang laban kontra diktadurya at para sa demokrasya!
An unarmed Iranian ship was invited, along with the U.S., to be part of an Indian Naval exercise, and its sailors paraded on land before the president.
The U.S. at the last minute pulled out of the exercise and instead attacked the Iranian ship with a torpedo.
Breaking with all norms of civilization and warfare, we then refused to rescue the drowning survivors. The Sri Lanka Navy was left to pull the dead bodies from the water.
I am hard pressed to think of any other nation throughout history that would do something so cowardly and despicable. We are genuinely in a league of our own, and American media — mostly shrugging off the bombing of a girls school and acting as if carpet bombing Tehran is a normal military tactic — is deeply complicit.
These are the comments in a news article showing the mobile drug war/EJK museum exhibit, the shirt of Myca Ulpina, youngest victim of drug war at just 3 years old, the one dismissed as "shit happens" by Bato Dela Rosa.
Depraved individuals.
