Bought the newer version of Lost Cities since we noticed that it works much better for my husband, who is colorblind. Turns out it also is much easier for me to see as well! Great example of Use Of Color improved upon. #a11y
I didn't know how much I'd use this as an abled person, but I love this feature. Just used it today to avoid having to open an image and rotate my phone to read the screenshot text. Now we just gotta get more people to write alt text!
As promised, the ALT badge and exposed image descriptions go global today.
Over the past month, we fixed bugs and gathered feedback from the limited release group. We're ready. You're ready. Let's describe our images! Here's how: https://t.co/bkJmhRpZPg
@cariefisher I don't think that assumption is off base. I've had some recruiters message me about a junior position and how it's a great growth opportunity 🙄 Sometimes it's hard to tell if there's some gender bias there or just plain incompetence at their job
@cariefisher "Retired" 😝
But more seriously, as someone who generally looks younger than I am, I hate questions that seem like they assume I'm a kid. It says more to me about the company culture, potentially being skewed very young or making very bad assumptions about who I am.
If your engineering interview process asks questions that no engineer at your company needs to actually be able to solve to be effective, any competent engineer failing that interview is not a failure on them, it's a failure on you
@melaniersumner@CascadiaJS Agreed - I wonder if it would be more helpful to include links to the past speaker pages. The site is probably more responsive and parseable than the image anyway. Then the alt text could be something more like "{num} speakers from {year}"
Hey.
It's 5:45 EST on a Friday before a long weekend. Of course I'm publishing my first blog post in over a year now:

Really great hearing from @flaxenink talk about hidden disabilities at @a11ybay meetup for #GAAD ! Check out her article about her experience having a hidden disability https://t.co/zp0AD6HeUz
Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day! To celebrate 10 years of GAAD, we're taking an in-depth look at the last decade. Get all the milestones and fun facts on the blog: https://t.co/DHm9jTcF1x @joedevon@Jennison#GAAD#a11y#Accessibility
The new Helen Keller @Barbie doll has a terrible message. @Mattel had the chance to tell kids you can have a facial difference and be a role model, but instead they erased a big part of #HelenKeller’s life. So disappointing! #Blind kids, and all kids, need inclusive toys. #GAAD
