Today we remember the 61 children and adults who died 75 years ago, when an American aircraft crashed in Freckleton on this day in 1944.

Today marks 75 years since the Freckleton Air Disaster near Preston. 61 people died, including 38 children when a US military plane crashed into a primary school in August 1944. A service of remembrance will be held in church and flowers laid at the memorial garden.

#BAD2 had 363 motor vehicles assigned to the station during January 1944. Based in 23 hangar, the M.T. Section was responsible for the operation, tasking, and maintenance of each vehicle. On average the fleet covered 17,435 miles a day, consuming 2,627 US Gallons of fuel. #WW2

The final touches are completed on a B-24 Liberator in Warton's 4 Hangar, ready to join the queue of aircraft awaiting test flights before ferry to their respective units. 2,894 Liberators passed through BAD-2 for maintenance, modification, and repair. #BAD2 #WW2 #avgeek

#BAD2 also constructed 387 CG-4 and CG-15 gliders used on D-Day. Around 8000 boxes arrived at Warton containing the gliders, leading to conjecture that roughly 1600 gliders were actually built; However, this figure has not been officially confirmed.#DDay75

#BAD2 played a huge part in the D-Day operations. Thousands of USAAF aircraft arrived at the base prior to the invasion for preparation work. Aircraft would soon arrive back at Warton, as the demand over Europe meant airframes hit their overhaul hours within weeks. #DDay75
