Christians often believe that they must earn the right to preach the gospel to a particular individual. They think that they need to make repeated relational deposits before they can make any withdrawals. Clearly, this isn’t the practice of Jesus and the Apostles.

God has not only given us permission but also commanded us to proclaim His truth to everyone. This doesn’t mean that we throw relationships out the window. It just means that we needn’t feel guilty about cutting to the chase evangelistically.

You don’t need to earn permission. You’ve been given a mandate.

Since the promise to Abraham, God has had a plan for all the nations of the world. A plan to pour out His divine blessing on a global scale, and to redeem the world through His Son.

Genesis 22:18
"in your offspring shall all the 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 of the earth be blessed"

This plan begins to unravel progressively like leaven filling up a jar with the arrival of King Jesus, and His death and resurrection (Mat. 13:33). As the leaven expands more and more, Isaiah describes the results:
"It shall come to pass in the latter days
that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established...
and 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 shall flow to it" (Isaiah 2:2)

This notion is not abandoned in the New Testament. Jesus picks it up just before His ascension, in that well known charge from Matthew 28: "“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔..."

God's plans for the nations of the world can be lost in a culture that prioritizes individuality above almost anything else. However, this rich truth is seen dripping off the pages of the Bible— both Old Testament and New. Finally, as Jesus sends His disciples out, the promise to Abraham will now be fulfilled.

In light of this, what is the responsibility of earthly rulers here and now, as they govern their nations?
These two Psalms sum this up well.

Psalm 2:10-12
Now therefore, O kings, be wise...
11 Serve the Lord with fear...
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,

Psalm 22:27-28
27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.

The kingdom of the world truly has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.
