I started watching it the last year or two of college. I remember seeing the movie and being so excited to find a series continuing the story.
After a couple of seasons I met my future wife, and though she is not the geek I was, she loved sci-fi stuff too so we would watch this all the time.
My kids are almost grown now, but last night one of the older ones came down and joined us to re-watch the original movie. She loved it (and Michael Jackson too, told me I was so lucky to grow up in the 80's, lol) and we're going to start from the beginning in the series next week.
Modern life is so divisive and atomized, it is awesome to have a story we can all watch and enjoy, even a 16 year old know-it-all teenager who gives me attitude over every other thing in her life.

I want to hear from you, why is Stargate special?
How'd you find it?
What special memories does it hold?
Let's show @AmazonMGMStudio why Stargate is so special to us fans.
@PeggiBosquez The machines should absolutely be banned and everyone involved investigated and prosecuted. They are tailor-made for fraud and obfuscation.
It is theoretically possible to produce a secure digital voting system but it would look nothing like these black box systems.
The Expanse got cancelled. It had a strong dedicated fan base. The fans rallied together and saved it from cancelation to get the series finished. The Expanse is widely considered the best sci-fi show in recent modern history.
Stargate fans can do this too. Save Stargate.
The new Stargate series is dead. The reason Amazon cancelled it has me absolutely infuriated.
This show could have been massive, the timing could not have been better. The news is full of ancient alien conspiracies and actual advancements in space exploration. Nearly every sci-fi property is failing their target demographic. Star Trek sucks, Star Wars sucks. What an opportunity to create a great show; squandered.
Amazon's Stargate series was created by show veterans and designed to respect the established lore, and thus respect the dedicated fanbase.
The executives at Amazon thought they knew better. They read the script and did not believe the show would appeal to an audience outside of the established core viewerbase. They told them to abandon the world that had been built up over 17 seasons to appeal to a mythical 'modern audience'. The showrunners refused, held their ground, said 'I die free', and thus the show was cancelled. Massive respect to them.
As a LONG time Stargate fan who has watched through SG1 at least half a dozen times: I would rather have NOTHING than a betrayal. I would rather we never get another Stargate property again than see them do to my favorite show what they've done to The Lord of the Rings with 'The Rings of Power'.
Impudence!
This is an actual quote from SG1: "Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."
AI is the greatest single tool for entrepreneurs ever. It categorically rescues the capital needed for any business to start. I’m creating one right now after losing most of my money ten years ago in a venture and then having a rare lung disease that led to lung transplants. Without AI I could never do the business I am launching. (I say this as a semi-old man, who’s Gen X — the opportunities for the young will be sky high.)
@AmazonMGMStudio While this is nice, many of us want to see Martin Gero and his team work on Stargate again, instead of having it languish or be mauled by someone who cares little for it.
You should listen to what millions of fans are asking for.
@topkekius I would probably run over and show the wife.
She would probably tell me to ask my new friend Elon to help since he can go to Mars he can probably finish the bathroom remodel too.
@Rainmaker1973 I tried a Rubik's cube once, got bored, then thought, "why in the world am I wasting time moving cubes around for no reason?".
Cool graphic though!
@mntruell One more nice feature would be a way to pool bug/changes. Since there is a time lag as the AI fixes things it would be helpful to go into a 'bug mode" where you go through the things you found it and it notes them, then switch back out for it to fix them as a batch.
