In 2001, Mollah Sultani was Mike Spann’s primary Afghan contact. After Mike was killed that Nov., his widow, Shannon, met Mr Sultani. In 2022, we helped bring him and his family out of Afghanistan to safety. Last month, they stood together again at Ground Zero.
A promise kept.

Yesterday, on the anniversary of Mike Spann’s death, an Afghan-American shared with us his thoughts on the CIA team that came to his valley in late 2001. “I was so excited. I was only 16 years old...the Americans I met in 2001 made me an American." He works at the Pentagon now.

OTD in 2001, CIA officer Mike Spann gave his life in service to our country while on a mission with the first CIA team deployed behind enemy lines in Afghanistan after 9/11. We honor Mike’s service by standing with those who stood with us.
