We need to disabuse ourselves of the notion that the success of a business should be measured by its bottom line, and we should instead start measuring a business by the value it adds to society.

If your business creates record-breaking profits, but that profit came as a result of worsening your product, paying non-livable wages, cutting as many jobs as possible, offering a product that makes the world worse instead of better, or any combination of the above, then you’re a shitty businessman who deserves to be shamed by society instead of glorified.

Obviously, businesses need to make a profit in order to be sustainable. But if people at the top took less and gave more, the world would be a much better place, and we need to start treating greed like the disease that it is. It’s hard for me to think of a single thing in my life that hasn’t been ruined — or isn’t actively being ruined — by rampant, out-of-control greed. It’s a sickness of the highest order.
