Here’s a “new” interaction I just had when ordering food at the casino (it’s not new, I promise)

Me: “I’ll take an order of short ribs and two bottles of water. Thank you.”
Black woman next to me: “Did you grow up in Bellevue?”
Me: “Nope. May I ask why?”
Black woman next to me: “You sound like you’re white and were raised in Bellevue.”
Me: “Oh I’ve only been hearing that for my entire life. Thanks, I guess.”
Black woman next to me: “That’s just how I talk to white people on the phone”
Me: “That’s just how I talk.”

Still too black for white people and too white for black people. What a life!
