It was a pleasure meeting Rep. Lawler during the June 30 House hearing where I testified for my daughter, Katie.

America has countless victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Families like mine rarely make the national conversation.

Instead, we're told to focus almost exclusively on cases like Renee Good and Alex Pretti; tragic stories that involve disputed facts, competing narratives, and legitimate questions that deserve careful investigation.

Katie's story wasn't like that.

Katie was 20 years old.
She was sitting in the back seat of a car stopped at a red light when an intoxicated illegal immigrant crashed into it, killing her.
There was no ambiguity.
No competing narrative.
Just a preventable death that never should have happened.

Every innocent life deserves compassion.
But when the media elevates complex cases while overlooking clear, preventable tragedies like Katie's, it sends a message about which victims matter.

CNN and Kaitlan Collins exemplify selective, hierarchical compassion: when an innocent American like Katie is killed in a preventable crime, her story is minimized while other tragedies receive sustained national attention. Do better.

JB Pritzker uses his enormous inherited wealth to spend hundreds of millions influencing political outcomes because politicians with failing ideas and worsening results no longer know how to persuade people honestly.

Instead, they rely on political machines, media narratives, fear, dependency, and financial dominance to coerce Illinois into accepting decline as normal.

Over time, that corruption and machine politics have demoralized voters into believing ordinary people no longer have enough influence to change the direction of this state.

But that is exactly the point of the piece, roughly four million eligible voters sat out the last governors election cycle, so:

“Not enough” can become more than enough.
More than enough to overcome the political machine.
More than enough to overcome the Pritzker money.
