Did you know that a large number of Armenians collaborated with the Nazis during World War II?

After Hitler came to power and another world war was looming, the Soviet Armenian state made a deal with the Nazis. Armenian General Dro Kanayan, known for his successful attacks on unarmed Muslim villages, joined the German war effort.

The 812th Armenian Legion and Armenian battalion were organized, eventually growing to twenty thousand soldiers strong. This battalion fought alongside the Germans in the Crimea, the North Caucasus, and Holland.

These soldiers were tasked with spying on and capturing all Jews and other individuals deemed undesirable by the Germans. Once a significant number of individuals were captured, the Armenians herded them together and marched them to pits where they were executed by Einsatzgruppen.

Karekin Nezhdeh, an Armenian general, founded the Armenian Tseghagron, a Nazi organization through which Armenian young people joined the SS and other elite German military forces.

This is the massive monument for Nazi collaborator Garegin Nezhdh in the middle of Yerevan , Armenia .
