As a transit planner I deal with intergenerational conflict constantly.

Seniors want the bus to come to their door, but they have time to wait so they don’t mind if it’s infrequent.

The UK tax base is becoming dangerously concentrated.

Around 4.5 in 10 adults pay no Income Tax.

The top 1% of Income Tax payers contribute around 27% of the entire Income Tax take.

The top 10% contribute 60.3%.

Think about that.

A relatively small group carries an extraordinary share of the Income Tax burden, yet they’re repeatedly the group politicians look towards when they want more money.

Keep increasing the burden on the people who invest, build businesses, employ people and generate taxable income, and eventually you change their behaviour.

The bigger danger is creating a country where more and more people depend on the State while fewer and fewer are expected to finance it.

That isn’t a sustainable economic model. Eggs in one basket.

And a population increasingly dependent on government inevitably gives government more power over it.

To understand progressives you just need to understand why this argument is so convincing to them. They don’t think that the arguments of “racists” and “sexists” and “transphobes” can be true *in principle*, so they never investigate them, don’t understand them, can’t distinguish one argument from the next.

It all looks like one argument to them, an argument that’s long ago been foreclosed upon by the very structure of a universe that promises us that racist, sexist, transphobic arguments violate the laws of physics.

@ShakinthatChalk @MathsWithMsB Almost everyone i knew was paying £1500+ on nursery fees, noting I paid £1800. In fact some private schools would have been cheaper than my daughters nursery place. I wouldn't have imagined having enough for private school until I paid nursery fees....
