MV HERON, TEWA and KINGFISHER of @OfficialKCGS have been handed over by KSL to Kenya Coast Guard today after successful repair and maintenance. They have met @kmakenya standards and now embark on maritime operations.

Hearty congratulations to Uganda for the launch of vessel MV Mpungu, a ro-ro vessel with a 21 trailer trucks capacity carrying various cargo.

This is a milestone for the East Africa Lake region as it will enhance lake transport and trade between Port Bell, Mwanza, Jinja and Kisumu port.

Lake transport is on a steady rise as East Africa Countries of Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya work towards connecting the region and improving trade through the shared Lake Victoria.

This is evidenced by the rise of cargo throughput handled in Kisumu Port, with the inland water way port handling 127,745 metric tons of cargo in 2023 compared to 69,456 metric tons in 2022.

MV Mpungu is the latest addition to the fleet of vessels plying the lake region.

MV KINGFISHER, a patrol boat of @OfficialKCGS is undergoing repair and maintenance at Kisumu Shipyard. The repairs include rewiring of electrical components, VHF radio communications repairs, engine servicing, repair and replacement of worn out parts along with painting work.

Today ,I officially opened the Regional Maritime Transport Policy Workshop organised under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Standing Committee on Shipping (ISCOS) at Pride Inn Azure Nairobi . ISCOS is a Regional Maritime Organization operating in the Eastern, Southern, and Northern African whose mandate is to Promote, Protect and Coordinate the Shipping and Maritime Interests of the Region. We had delegates drawn from 18 African Countries . The draft regional policy , under consideration, seeks to herald a Competitive, comprehensive, and efficient mechanism to promote the growth of shipping and maritime industry.
