Because they know Ronaldo has a legitimate claim. If they truly believed his case was ridiculous, they would laugh and move on. Instead, they rush to argue, correct, and drown out every mention of him.

You can call Pelé, Maradona, or even R9 the GOAT, and many of them will not bat an eye. But the moment you say Cristiano Ronaldo is the GOAT, suddenly everyone becomes a football expert.

They feel threatened. They can't withstand the truth.

Ronaldo's career is too extraordinary to be dismissed casually. Whether people rank him first or not is a matter of opinion, but the intensity with which some people try to shut down any GOAT argument in his favour suggests they know the debate is far from settled. If there were no case to answer, there would be no urgency to answer it.

But you know what? There is absolutely nothing they can do about it. The whole world has witnessed Ronaldo's greatness, and millions acknowledge him as the GOAT. They can cry all they want. Ronaldo has already cemented his legacy.
