@RachealSarah3 Also, Memphis didn’t shut down right away. I was able to go to mass one last time with a handful of our students a couple days later not knowing when we would receive Jesus again.
@RachealSarah3 Helping lead a mission trip in Mexico which wasn’t a concerning country at the time. Had no problem getting back into the country.
Now that I think about it, I did so much air traveling that week when face masks were not yet required.
As a Midwesterner living in the South I have to say snow is IMPERATIVE to having Christmas spirit. My mood instantly changed when I rolled into Iowa and saw snow everywhere.
@1perfectmisfit@WasserKrystal@lizlevrome I don’t see how this has anything to do with what my tweet talks about but I’ll answer anyway.
If the cross is blessed, then I would hope that the Church would still accept that it is a blessed object and do what it can to display it reverently.
@ijb_ball@WasserKrystal@lizlevrome I wouldn’t say wasteful. It’s not like they just throw out the figurines that were used in the past. My guess is that they are returned to the part of Italy who donated them. As for this particular crèche, it was created in the 60s and 70s which I think is why it is distasteful.
@hrhan119@WasserKrystal@lizlevrome “The nativity set, made in the 1960s and 1970s, “not only represents a cultural symbol for the whole of Abruzzo, but is also considered an object of contemporary art that has its roots in the traditional processing of castellana ceramics” found on the Catholic News Agency website
@deviloutofme@WasserKrystal@lizlevrome I agree that it is distasteful. It’s from the 1960s and 70s so it honestly makes sense why it’s the way it is. My tweet only meant that we shouldn’t directly blame the Pope.
@WasserKrystal @TexasBob76 @lizlevrome My thought would be that the Pope has bigger fish to fry than to worry about the decorations of the Vatican. That would be a full time job on its own. I doubt this even made it to his desk. Do I dislike it? Yes. But do I think it falls on the Pope? No.
@WasserKrystal@lizlevrome Actually, Pope Francis has nothing to do with the Vatican nativity scene. About 8 years ago, the Vatican decided that instead of spending thousands of dollars each year, different regions of Italy would donate the nativity scenes. This year it is donated by Abruzzo.
