This week, I’m honored to carry the name of Dept. Levi Vargas on my racecar in recognition of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. Dept. Levi Vargas was a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the San Dimas Station. Known for his professionalism, compassion, and dedication to serving his community, Levi spent over a decade with the department after joining in 2015. Dept. Vargas tragically passed away in 2026 while participating in the Baker to Vegas law enforcement memorial relay race. His legacy of service and commitment will not be forgotten. 🇺🇸
He is RISEN !!!
I shared last Easter why I believe that Jesus Christ is a reliable place to place your faith for these reasons. Here is them again.
1. He really lived - There is a mountain of evidence for the historicity of Jesus. The vast majority of Historians, atheist and non-Christian believers alike, are all in consensus that there actually was a man named Jesus of Nazareth that walked the Earth. There’s documentation inside (the synoptic gospels & the Pauline epistles) and outside the Bible of his life (Josephus - Antiquities of the Jews books 18 & 20 and The Mishnah). There’s also early Roman documentation of his crucifixion (Tacitus “The Annals” - book 15 chapter 44).
1a. What he taught - Jesus was not a Moral Teacher. He went around preaching hope and told people to follow him because he was the Son of God (Luke 4:21, John 8:58, John 10:30, etc.). So either he’s a liar and a conman or he’s actually who he said he was.
2. He really died - Again there’s sources inside and outside the Bible (Mara Bar-Serapion, Josephus Theissen pp. 81-83, the Babylonian Talmud - Sanhedrin 43a, etc.) along with Roman documentation of his crucifixion (Tacticus “The Annals”). There’s also NO record anywhere of anyone ever surviving a Roman Crucifixion. The Journal of American Medical Association even said the historical medical evidence shows that Jesus was actually dead before the spear was put in his side where blood and water poured out separated, meaning he was dead. (John 19:34)
3. He really rose from the dead - “There are NINE ancient sources inside and outside the New Testament confirming and corroborating the conviction of the disciples that they encountered the resurrected Jesus. That is an avalanche of historical data.” -Lee Strobel. These disciples weren’t just spreading around what they knew were lies. No, these people were martyred for what they believed. They were imprisoned, whipped, tortured, exiled, and crucified for spreading what they had SEEN and believed. These people weren’t having hallucinations or visions. For over 500 people (who Jesus appeared to in the span of 40 days, 1 Corinthians 15:6) to have the same exact hallucination is out of the question. Hallucinations are like dreams, can’t share them, they’re all in our own minds. Visions are different however. People who really want something to be true can have visions and see it. However he appeared to Saul of Tarsus, a persecutor of early Christians after the resurrection, knocked him off his horse (Acts 9) and then he went on to become an apostle, preaching the word of God and what he had seen to be true. He was also martyred for what he had seen to be true.
The Historical Evidence I have presented is not even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the reasons I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and my Savior.
