A 37-year-old woman in Brazil was arrested after allegedly posing as a 12-year-old girl and living with a host family for more than a year.

Authorities report that she introduced herself as “Gabriele,” claiming she had fled a troubled home environment and turned to a local church for assistance.

Congregation members provided her with financial help, housing, and ongoing support. Eventually, one family took her in and began raising her as their own daughter.

Investigators say she justified her adult appearance by claiming various medical issues, including autism, and stating she had received hormones during childhood.

For 14 months, she reportedly sustained the deception by speaking in a childlike high-pitched voice, carrying comfort objects, drinking from baby bottles, using pacifiers, and behaving in an immature manner.

The family grew so attached that they threw a party for what they thought was her 12th birthday and were even discussing adoption.

The ruse was exposed when a relative alerted the police.

During interrogation, the woman reportedly confessed her real age and identity. She now faces charges of fraud and using a false identity.Officials claim she has a pattern of running similar deceptions across several regions of Brazil.
