The smartphone chipset market is entering a VERY interesting phase. 👀
Qualcomm & MediaTek have dominated flagship chips for years. But that lead is getting smaller.
• Samsung’s Exynos 2600 was already unveiled with the Galaxy S26 series in February, becoming an early 2nm flagship chip.
• Qualcomm & MediaTek are preparing their first 2nm flagship chips with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Dimensity 9600.
• Samsung’s 2nd gen Exynos 2700 chips are showing strong Geekbench AI performance than compared with Qualcomm and Mediatek and efficiency is also improving.
• Xiaomi’s 3nm XRING O3 hits 5.2M+ on AnTuTu Score which is highest till now and reports claims it very efficient too.
• Huawei is already making its own chips for years and using in its smartphones.
The BIGGEST threat to Qualcomm & MediaTek isn’t another chipmaker.
It’s smartphone brands becoming chipmakers themselves.
And there’s another issue: early desoldered engineering versions of upcoming Snapdragon and Dimensity Flagship chips have reportedly appeared in China’s unorganised market since February which is 7 months before Official launch.
If competitors can get early samples and study them and use the same tech in their chipsets to make them more powerful and efficient.
Qualcomm & MediaTek need to take this seriously and in my opinion it's the high time they’ll need to innovate faster, improve efficiency and create a performance gap that in-house chips can’t easily close.
Otherwise, more smartphone brands may decided to move on from them and start using their own chips in more and more devices and that would hit their sales very badly.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is testing updated Mac mini models with M5 or M6 chips while keeping the current compact, square aluminum design.
The refresh could arrive before Apple’s September iPhone event - earlier than Apple’s usual post-iPhone Mac launches.

The global memory chip race is getting even more intense.
The U.S. is reportedly pushing South Korea to ensure a stable memory supply by encouraging Samsung and SK hynix to build more memory fabs in the U.S.
But at the same time, Samsung and SK hynix are expanding NAND production in China.
🇨🇳 Samsung is upgrading its Xi’an lines toward advanced V9 NAND, with reported capacity of around 40,000–50,000 wafers/month.
🇨🇳 SK hynix is also reportedly reviving its Dalian NAND expansion, potentially adding 30,000–50,000 wafers/month, with equipment installation expected to begin later this year and production targeted for 2027.
🇺🇸 Meanwhile, Washington wants Korean memory makers to increase production on U.S. soil as AI demand keeps pushing memory supply tighter. SK hynix has already said it is reviewing additional U.S. sites, depending on power, water, workforce and supply-chain conditions.
And this comes as SK hynix commits ₩54.3 trillion to new DRAM/NAND fabs in Korea, showing just how aggressively the industry is expanding capacity.
The AI boom is turning memory into a strategic resource - and Samsung + SK hynix are being pulled in multiple directions: 🇰🇷 Korea, 🇨🇳 China and 🇺🇸 the U.S.
