@LealaHolcomb This is infuriating to read. It is manipulative for an oppressive group to self-victimize and use real complaints against them (I.e., the complaints of inclusivity and language recognition) in attempt to flip the script.
Counterproposal Presentation for the Continuation of the Philosophy and Religion Program is today at 11:00am. Stay tuned for more updates!
Thanks for all the support! As of right now our petition has 540 signatures! Let us use this momentum and student support to help Gallaudet.
@Omnimaxus79 Spreading awareness of the recommendation to shut down the program. I will use the petition as support for our counterproposal which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 28th. The committee vote is on Nov. 11th. After that the Faculty Senate will deliberate on the recommendation.

โฆwe should make our bodies and their gestures as like as we could to them.
HERMOGENES: I do not see that we could do anything else.
SOCRATES: We could not; for by bodily imitation only can the body ever express anything.
HERMOGENES: Very true.

Also, quick update on the Counterproposal effort to save the Philosophy and Religion Program at Gallaudet. As student representative I am tasked with making a statement before the committee on Oct. 28. Here is what I have been to. (1/)
SOCRATES: โฆAnd here I will ask you a question: Suppose that we had no voice or tongue, and wanted to communicate with one another, should we not, like the deaf and dumb, make signs with the hands and head and the rest of the body?
HERMOGENES: There would be no choice, Socrates.
SOCRATES: We should imitate the nature of the thing; the elevation of our hands to heaven would mean lightness and upwardness; heaviness and downwardness would be expressed by letting them drop to the ground; if we were describing the running of a horse, or any other animal,โฆ
#WhyPhilosophy?
One must examine this question closely. We must first discern all of its parts.
What is โphilosophy?โ
What is so special about it?
What does philosophy offer to a student?
Why must this student know philosophy?
Why? (5/)
A petition will be ready by Monday morning. I hope that those of you who love philosophy and the humanities will sign it. For those who are yet to be convinced, letโs have a discussion.
