I think it is a superb remake. I will get grief for that and I do not mind. It is not a photocopy of '87 and it is not the plot of The Hellbound Heart either.

Barker already put the book on screen the first time. This one starts a new mess and still feels like his rules: you open the box because you want something, then the bill arrives.

The performances hold all the way through. Clayton’s Priest is cold. The lore is the hunger, not just the hook.

The box has manners. It does not jump out of a cupboard. You solve it. You invite them. There is a configuration and a cost and a bit of ceremony before the room changes. That is why it scares me more than a man who kicks a door in. You did this on purpose.I loooove the original. I like this one for remembering Hellraiser was never only a chain in a room.
