Somaliland has long pushed equal business partnerships, not donor handouts—built on local ownership, contracts, and accountability. That mindset fuels stability and private investment. It’s a sharp contrast with Somalia’s aid-dependent model and chronic volatility. 👇
It was an honor to engage key stakeholders and leaders on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. My remarks highlighted Somaliland's distinctive historical journey, our right to self-determination, and the transformative promise of Israel's recent recognition for bilateral ties and regional harmony. I noted that recognizing us strengthens global stability and rewards merit. I concluded with a call to forge win-win partnerships in Red Sea security, trade, technology innovation, and joint efforts against extremism.
We agree with President Donald Trump: Somalia has no functioning government, no constitution, and no rule of law—only a small group of corrupt elites grabbing land from innocent, poor citizens.
To my fellow citizens of the Republic of Somaliland, home & abroad, I extend my sincere greetings and appreciation, and convey my best wishes for enduring peace, stability, and prosperity.
#Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud issued an inflammatory statement attacking the State of #Israel, saying that “recognition from Israel — the worst place in the world — is no solution,” and claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is internationally isolated.
The remarks were condemned as irresponsible, diplomatically damaging, and fueling hate-driven rhetoric amid rising regional tensions.

🚨 BREAKING | HAPPENING NOW
Thousands of Somalilanders continue celebrating into the night, filling the streets of Hargeisa in a powerful show of solidarity with the United Arab Emirates.
Tonight, #Somaliland’s National Museum in Hargeisa is illuminated with the #UAE flag — a striking symbol of the growing partnership between the Republic of Somaliland and the UAE. 🇦🇪🤝
Somalia’s daydreaming changes nothing. Berbera is the birthplace of our President, and the UAE is a trusted friend of Somaliland. They invested in Berbera when others doubted us—today, everyone is talking about Berbera. We are a nation of principles, and we stand by our friends. The UAE is here to stay, no matter what a weak administration in Mogadishu says. #SomalilandRecognition
The Government of the Republic of #Somaliland strongly condemns the Somalia Government’s calls for foreign military intervention. Such statements are a grave escalation and a clear violation of the UN Charter.
“The recognition opens wide opportunities across investment, trade, technology, energy, water, agriculture, and infrastructure. #Somaliland is ready for comprehensive, multi-sector cooperation with #Israel,” Somaliland President @Abdirahmanirro Mohamed Abdillahi Irro said.
BREAKING :#Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a televised address accusing Israel of “military expansionism” in the Horn of Africa, land-grabbing, genocide, and the displacement of Palestinians—calling @IsraeliPM Benjamin @netanyahu a “wanted fugitive.”
Hassan questioned the right of the Jewish state to exist at all, claiming the land belongs to “#Palestine,” and portrayed Israel as a “genocidal state,” a deliberate and calculated attempt to delegitimise it.
The speech came hours before a delegation of the Communist Party of China arrived in Mogadishu.
Hassan claimed Somalia, with Arab states and Turkey, will “drive Israel out of the HoA.”
