Leg day in Vexalia. Some Vex skipped it entirely. Others may have taken it a little too seriously. π
I'm making legs interchangeable for VexFusion, and getting them to fit all these different bodies has been... interesting.

After a week of working on Vex heads and legs, I went looking for the ones that still refuse to cooperate. π
Feet floating above the ground, heads that donβt quite line upβ¦ Iβve still got work to do!

Meet my little test Vex! Every new part gets tested on this guy first.
He finally learned to walk this week, and he still blinks like he can't believe it either π

@Anokcraft A bit of both! I start with a defined attachment point, then use code to check the fit and adjust the placement to avoid clipping into the body.
With all the possible Vex combinations, a fixed position alone wouldnβt really work π
Breeding and fusion sounded fun. Then I realised all those creature parts actually need to fit together. π
This week I tackled Vex heads, with some very questionable results.
Oh, and this is my first time narrating a Vexalia devlog!

@azrhyga Thank you! π Once I realised the old Colette looked like Roger from American Dad in one of his disguises, I couldnβt unsee it. Had to change it!
Colette is the reason I redesigned the entire cast.
Sheβs the thief and rebel of the group, but her old design barely showed any of that. π
Did the redesign fix her?

One test Vex, way too many identity crises. π
This week Iβve been working on interchangeable legs in the VexBench, testing how they fit with all the different bodies and creature parts.

@GameTikker I'm developing Vexalia, a voxel monster-taming JRPG inspired by Jade Cocoon!
I've been sharing quite a bit of development on my profile, from creature fusion and breeding to character redesigns.
Feel free to check it out! π
@Giulio6686 Here's a little creature from Vexalia, the voxel monster-taming JRPG I'm working on!
Still experimenting with creature designs and animations. π
@clemmygames I'm working on Vexalia, a voxel monster-taming JRPG!
I've been sharing progress on creature breeding (VexBreed), fusion (VexFusion), and character redesigns on my profile. Still plenty more to come! π
@TheIndieManiac I'm working on Vexalia, a voxel monster-taming JRPG!
This little guy is my test Vex for trying out new creature parts. He only learned to walk this week π
Didnβt know what to show for #WIPWednesday, so I started pressing random buttons in my part tester π
Which is roughly how it works anyway: every new part gets thrown into random combos until something clips into something else.

Meet Anoris π
Anoris was next up for a redesign. What do you think of the new version?
Iβm at Tokyo Game Show this week at the eGame Lab stand π΅πΉ

Recording development as I go so I donβt have to make separate marketing videos.
Problem: hitting record makes me forget how everything works. π
How do you make a making-of without half of it becoming Google searches?

Two Vex can shape what comes next, but they don't get to decide it completely.
Breeding passes traits forward, with enough uncertainty that opening an egg should still feel like a surprise.

The forge takes two Vex and gives back one.
You choose the pair. The fusion decides what it inherits, and some outcomes are much rarer than others. Planning gets you close, but never guarantees the result.
