This is a "Brummie" Prawn Balti. Created by Pakistani immigrants to Birmingham, England in the 1970's at an area of the city known as Sparkhill Triangle. Thank you to my friends Lorna Munro who makes these Balti bowls (https://t.co/8rVOPF33C1) and Andy Munro for all their help
Very excited to have welcomed a journalist from a leading newspaper this week to our factory to see bowls being made for an in depth piece on Birmingham Balti’s UNESCO bid. #Birmingham
No disrespect but this headline 🤨Volume doesn’t = quality, so isn’t a marker of ‘best’. Birmingham invented its own globally celebrated curry, has a rich Desi pub culture, 2* Michelin Indian restaurant plus Tom Cruises fav curry! #Birmingham https://t.co/KhkZVtAaPp
We’re very happy to be all set up in our new home in Brum’s historic manufacturing heartland - the JQ with Balti bowl and https://t.co/GJt4meJgvV opposite 1000 Trades Pub in the beautiful Argent Centre. #Birmingham
Things are hotting up on the campaign trail for UNESCO recognition for Birmingham Balti! “This is a great first step to both recognising and safeguarding the authenticity of Birmingham's most famous culinary invention” https://t.co/wC5tI2PnBE
I’m backing the Birmingham #Balti to be given #UNESCO protected status.
It’s part of our story, our diverse heritage, and our history of bringing people together.
That’s what makes Birmingham what it is.
And that’s why in this election, Labour is Birmingham is promising to champion our heritage. We’ll unite our city. And always challenge division.
Hiding in plain sight on Moseley Road — the ghost of the Pakeezah Balti. Pakeeza means pure in English, but this one never made it into the 90s Balti Guides.
Does anyone remember it? 🍛

Two Baltis one medium garlic naan. Tear and share. Loving the simple pleasure of this at 40years young Akrams Stirchley, hits the spot after a day of warehouse moving, covered in dust straight to eat, perfect 👌🥘
“If London boasts jellied eels, then the Birmingham balti can knock the spots off it.” In today’s @thetimes a piece on the UNESCO bid for Birmingham Balti. #Birmingham

2. The phrase 'Balti pie' inadvertently keeps the word balti in circulation, indirectly supporting awareness and preservation of this distinctive Birmingham curry tradition. #BirminghamBalti
1. Despite the fact that, technically, a “balti pie” has never truly existed in its original culinary context, the term itself—borrowed from the Birmingham Balti tradition and later repurposed—still holds value. Even if its modern usage has drifted from the original meaning
This is very sad news for a long serving B’ham curry institution, deserving of all the love. It’s tough out there…support those places you love old and new 🖤
Need a spice inspired gift? We’re not only home to our fabulous Balti bowls but also discover beautiful hand crafted spice tins, spice blends and hand made Mumbai style sizzlers https://t.co/q54p7kOLQS
Thank you @brumdispatch for the mention re UNESCO intangible cultural heritage recognition for Birmingham Balti led by Andy Munro.A successful bid will enhance Birmingham’s status as a world class food destination and preserve this unique culinary heritage for future generations.
Very excited to share that both our office and manufacturing is moving back to where we started in 2017 in the beautiful Jewellery Quarter- proud to be supporting making and heritage in the JQ @MyJQ#BirminghamBalti
Another week another talk on Birmingham Balti by Andy. Passionately plugging away at promoting the unique living heritage for over 40 years. #BirminghamBalti
Way Back in 2017 we brought back production of Birmingham's Iconic Balti Bowl to the city. It grew from there; a now family run business, part heritage project, part addiction, dedicated to promoting a home-grown UK curry phenomena that once tasted, is impossible to forget.
Only icons and cool stuff! If you're in @ichoosemag you've made it BIG in Brum so congrats Dad! A perfectly timed piece featuring an extract highlighting exactly what a Birmingham Balti is from Dad's new book. Thank you for the excellent feature! SIGN UP!

Did you know that ‘balti’ means ‘bucket’ in Urdu and ‘Gosht’ means ‘meat’ ask for a Balti Gosht in Kashmir or Northern India and they’ll likely serve you a slow cooked meat curry in this or similar. For sure it’s yummy but definitely NOT a Birmingham Balti. #BucketCurry
