The #BalticComplete project has been involved in a new publication:
Are silicone foul-release coatings a viable and environmentally sustainable alternative to biocidal antifouling coatings in the Baltic Sea region?

@emilia_luoma The paper II suggests that biocidal-free coating with a regular in-water cleaning using a capture system is generally the lowest-risk option. By the careful consideration of the hull fouling management #strategy, both money and environment can be saved.

Some aspects of the work carried out by @emilia_luoma in the #BalticComplete project regarding #biofouling#management has now been included in her PhD thesis. In the short story below the link to ther thesis is available. Links to the open access papers in this thread as well.
@emilia_luoma The model presented in paper I in Emilia’s thesis provides a general reflection of the complex system of biofouling management in the marine environment: https://t.co/3ritEMIrXw
The newly published research paper by #BalticComplete experts describes a multi-criteria decision analysis model to compare #biofouling#management strategies in the Baltic Sea, considering several #environmental and #economic aspects jointly.
What else is important? Protecting the Sea from invasive species. E.g. this Flagship project tackled Action 2. "Support research on emerging thematic challenges related to clean shipping and its impact on the environment and wildlife in the Baltic Sea": https://t.co/CiVr66eaQR
Ships often bring in invasive species with them in ballast water tanks or ship hulls that threaten native aquatic organisms in #BalticSea.
#MadeWithInterreg project #COMPLETE translated the existing regulations into a working system to prevent that.

Saying good bye to the COMPLET and COMPLETE PLUS, thank you all who contributed to a very successful project, with very relevant outputs
@balticcomplete project, @HELCOMInfo
It is time for the final meeting of the @balticcomplete project, wrapping up all the work that has been carried out in COMPLETE and COMPLETE PLUS. Intensive and interesting day ahead!
The findings of a new research article produced in #BalticComplete by @OkkoOutinen and colleagues indicate that marinas can occur as significant hot spots for the establishment of non-indigenous fouling assemblages.

Congratulations, this is great news!
@BalticComplete will be happy to further contribute e.g. to the topic 'Non-indigenous species' of #BalticSeaActionPlan by promoting the way forward as indicated in the #biofouling management roadmap.
HELCOM has adopted the updated #BalticSeaActionPlan during its Ministerial Meeting 2021 that was held in Lübeck, Germany, on 20 October 2021. The ambitious plan contains about 200 concrete actions for a #healthyBaltic.

Check out the very short scary movie on hitchhiking alien species! It is made by @BalticComplete project to provide guidance for boaters to prevent the spread of invasive species in the Baltic Sea.

KMRC researchers have published a joint article that explores the management question related to #biofouling of #ships' underwater structures through qualitative decision analysis. The study is one of the numerous outputs from @BalticComplete project.

New #BalticComplete publication provides a conceptual influence diagram (CID) revealing how multidimensional the #optimal#biofouling#management in #shipping can be. This paper demonstrates the entanglement of social, ecological and technical aspects.
Welcome to take a look:
The latest scientific article from the @MerikotkaCentre research community presents a socio-eco-technical #systems#analysis of #ship.s' #biofouling management. Causal graphical representation of the multi-sectoral multi-objective problem provided!
