UGANDA, EGYPT DEEPEN ECONOMIC COOPERATION AS AMBASSADOR ELGAMMAL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, @HonKyeyune has received the newly accredited Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uganda, H.E. Sherif Mohamed Abdellatif Elgammal, who presented copies of his Letters of Credence.

The meeting focused on strengthening Uganda–Egypt economic cooperation, with emphasis on investment, infrastructure, energy, health, agriculture, and technology transfer.

Hon. Kasolo welcomed the growing interest from Egyptian investors and called for follow-up on the proposed dedicated industrial park for Egyptian companies, including pharmaceutical and manufacturing investments.

The two sides also explored opportunities for Egyptian companies in road construction, renewable energy, and glass manufacturing, building on the ongoing infrastructure projects being undertaken by Egyptian firms in Uganda.

🇺🇬|🇳🇬UGANDA-NIGERIA BUSINESS FORUM & EXHIBITION

Hon. Gen. @wilson_mbadi , Minister of State for Trade, expressed appreciation for the deep historical ties and Pan-African solidarity between Uganda and Nigeria, noting that the two countries must move beyond diplomatic goodwill to build tangible economic partnerships.

Speaking under the theme “Enhancing Business Linkages and Market Access through the AfCFTA Framework,” he called for greater intra-African trade by leveraging Uganda’s strategic location, agricultural potential and industrial ambitions alongside Nigeria’s entrepreneurial strength.

The Minister noted that while bilateral trade is growing, it remains far below its potential, calling for diversification beyond traditional commodities to include agro-processed products, technology and services.

He highlighted Uganda’s position as a gateway to the EAC market of more than 300 million people, while AfCFTA offers access to a much wider continental market. He also welcomed the presence of Nigerian financial institutions and cited Nigeria’s creative industry as an opportunity for deeper collaboration.

He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to creating a stable and competitive investment environment, removing non-tariff barriers and improving connectivity, including direct air links between Entebbe and Lagos.

He urged the private sector to turn the forum’s discussions into concrete partnerships and expressed appreciation to both countries’ diplomatic missions for strengthening bilateral commercial ties before officially declaring the forum open.

On Friday, @UgandaMFA in collaboration with @MoJCA_UG convened a National Stakeholder Validation Meeting for Uganda's Draft National Report under the 4th Cycle of the Universal Periodic Review at Mestil Hotel, Kampala.

The meeting was officially opened by Amb. John Leonard Mugerwa, Head of @UgandaMFA Department of International Legal and Social Affairs, with @MoJCA_UG represented by Ms. Akello Susan Apita.

The workshop brought together @GovUganda MDAs, @Parliament_Ug, @JudiciaryUG, @PoliceUg, @Mglsd_UG, @UHRC_UGANDA and CSOs to critically review and validate the draft ahead of its submission in October 2026.

The draft provides an update on implementation of recommendations received during the 3rd Cycle Review on 27th January 2022. Uganda is scheduled for review during the 54th Session of the UPR Working Group of @UN_HRC @UNHumanRights in Geneva in January-February 2027.

🇺🇬🤝🌍 The international mobilisation by Uganda missions abroad, produced measurable results from 🇰🇪 Kenya, 🇷🇼 Rwanda , 🇹🇿 Tanzania, 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe, 🇺🇸 USA,🇪🇹 Ethiopia, 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇮🇪 Ireland, 🇳🇱 Netherlands, 🇳🇦 Namibia, 🇰🇷 South Korea Alongside participants from numerous other countries, the figures demonstrated the reach of Uganda’s diplomatic activation strategy. The Uganda High Commission and Consulate network in Kenya alone mobilised more than 540 Kenyan runners, making Kenya the largest international source of participants.
