Have watched, with interest, the return of Gordon Campbell onto BC’s political scene as an active surrogate in the B.C. Conservative leadership race.
That has caused many to chime in with reminders of Campbell’s introduction of the HST after an election campaign where it was explicitly rejected.
While no government will be perfect, and every leader has to make tough calls, I would draw your attention to what I believe to be one of the most egregious, scandal ridden decisions of the Campbell/BC Liberal government: the privatization of BC Rail.
After pledging not to, Premier Campbell executed a 990 year lease of BC Rail operations.
The bidding process was deemed unfair by other bidders, and resulted in an unprecedented police raid on the B.C. legislature in 2003.
This led to the arrest of senior Campbell government staff Dave Basi and Bobby Virk, who pleaded guilty to corruption charges related to the sale.
This wasn’t just a policy disagreement.
It was a public asset, built over generations by British Columbians, handed over after voters were told it wouldn’t be, in the most underhanded of ways.
Voyager 1: On the Cusp of a Full Light-Day MilestoneBy November 13, 2026, NASA's legendary Voyager 1 spacecraft will cross an awe-inspiring threshold: it will become the first human-made object to reach a distance of one full light-day from Earth—approximately 25.9 billion kilometers (about 16.1 billion miles). At that point, every radio signal, every command beamed from Earth, and every precious packet of data streaming back will take a full 24 hours one-way to traverse the void.Imagine this: You send "Good morning, Voyager" at 8 a.m. on a Monday. The reply—assuming the probe is still chatting—won't arrive until Wednesday morning. That's the scale we're talking about now, a communication lag that rivals the rhythms of planets rather than the quick ping of lunar missions.Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 has already achieved immortality. It crossed the heliopause in 2012, plunging into true interstellar space—the first spacecraft to directly taste the galactic medium beyond the Sun's protective bubble. Out there, shielded from solar influence, it continues to measure cosmic rays, plasma waves, and magnetic fields, delivering irreplaceable insights into the environment surrounding our star system. This light-day mark isn't just a number—it's a profound reminder of cosmic vastness and human tenacity. Built with 1970s technology, powered by fading radioisotope generators, Voyager 1 has outlasted expectations decade after decade, drifting at roughly 17 km/s (about 38,000 mph) into the dark. Reaching this distance after nearly 50 years underscores both the mind-boggling emptiness between stars and the enduring brilliance of the engineers who sent it on its way.Voyager 2 trails behind, not expected to hit one light-day until around 2035—if it lasts that long. But for now, Voyager 1 holds the record as humanity's most distant emissary, still whispering science across billions of kilometers.

MUST WATCH
About 115 telecommunications network operations technician jobs will be offshored tomorrow if the government doesn’t act.
Far from routine work, these technicians maintain, monitor, and secure the backbone of Canada’s telecom infrastructure — including 911 and emergency networks.
Offshoring these roles would weaken national security by transferring operational control of critical systems outside our borders.
We are calling on @melaniejoly to act now and suspend this offshoring plan under national security provisions, and review telecom network operations to ensure Canadians retain control over sovereign infrastructure.
Watch our interview with Corey Mandryk, Lead Organizer for the affected workers.
We can pass every reverse onus bail reform imaginable, but until this stops, we’re nowhere close to being done.
Blair Donnelly was found Not Criminally Responsible — again — for stabbing three people in Chinatown while on unescorted leave.
He was previously found NCR for killing his daughter in 2006, and again in 2017 for attacking another psychiatric patient with a butter knife.
There are some people who should never be released. He is one of them.
How many more innocent people need to suffer? Why is this system so willing to roll the dice and have him roaming communities, including my own and those closest to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.
Damn this makes me angry.

Looking forward to speaking at #BuildEx#BuildExVancouver this morning, Western Canada's largest construction industry gathering. My message is simple: it’s well past time to unleash the power of B.C. workers and B.C. industries. Follow through on lofty words and get it done. We aren’t going to build an economy on whale watching, folks.
