Uganda’s tourism sector continues to thrive!
UWA today registered a full-capacity turnout of 76 visitors for gorilla trekking in Rushaga, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
This strong visitor confidence demonstrates that Uganda remains a safe, welcoming, and world-class tourism destination. We encourage travelers from around the world to come and experience our unique wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality.

UWA to open a regional zoo in Eastern Uganda (UWEC–Mbale Zoo)
UWA has begun relocating wildlife to Uganda’s first regional satellite zoo in Mbale. So far, lions, a zebra, a waterbuck, an ostrich, and peacocks are thriving in their new home.
The project will bring wildlife conservation and education closer to communities across Eastern Uganda.
Looking forward to the official opening on 12th June 2026.

Please follow @AwaUganda for future updates on animal rescues across Uganda. AWAU was formed last year to mobilise well-wishers, donors, and all people of goodwill to put a stop to the mistreatment of animals in Uganda, whether pets or farm animals.
Following the BBC documentary, there has been increased public awareness of dogs and cats being used to solicit funds from unsuspecting overseas donors. Recently, two fake shelters were busted, and one young man from Mityana was arraigned in court.
The case is now being pursued only by AWAU, as the other complainant has lost interest. With expected reforms to the Animal Cruelty Act, AWAU has high hopes that the informal shelters - run by scammers who are harming and mistreating animals for financial gain - will be put out of business.
Please give them a follow. It's a new organisation with a lot to do, and you can help by giving them a chance to communicate directly with you as their followers.
