@davidswanson We did 1st come 1st serve for reg. with the ability to sign up for a wait list. Then we asked ppl to let us know if they had to cancel for waitlisted ppl. Luckily, never got to the point where there were ppl who tried multiple times and couldn’t come

@DavidDtreth @Mike16253792 @realStanVG In this case those things are one in the same because in many religions, the ones who are learning about (for the purpose of teaching) their faith need to do the work of contextualizing their historical docs.

@DavidDtreth @realStanVG I think saying all religions do those 4 things is pretty reductive and presumptuous. I understand not differentiating between “opposes critical thinking” and “asking you to take a leap of faith” but most religions certainly don’t promote isolation from family and friends.

@Mike16253792 @realStanVG Hard to argue with you there. Might be a matter of perspective for me. I think people that do terrible things can find any justification. Historically their beliefs have been religious in nature, but more recent history shows they can be national, racial, or political.

@kdeck09 @Mike16253792 @realStanVG Lol yes and no. It’s a reach in a vacuum but makes some sense in context? I think if religious texts don’t make sense on their own merits then we can dismiss them. But depending on when they were written and what they say it’s ok to use context and not dismiss.

@anabesitythagod @realStanVG I don’t mean to argue semantics and I’m sure that’s what you meant but while you didn’t say “all” or “just” you also didn’t say “most”. You said “always” which I interpreted as it’s always the uneducated who are religious. Either way, people always ruin things, like religion.

@Mike16253792 @realStanVG I think if you take every word to be literal then yeah. But if you consider those documents are early humans trying to explain phenomena using logic of their time then not so much. To me, it’s like criticizing a 5 year old for not correctly answering “why is the sky blue?”
