After months of rehearsals & developing new performance skills, we had an incredible time yesterday filming a music video for the new Banji’s Class song, CATFISHED, coming soon! 🤩
Special thank you to @StAnnesVauxhall for being our hosting school this year!

Day 317: Ark Blacklands Primary Academy
With Reading Lead, Mrs Lozada. It was my first time visiting Hastings today and there was lots to see in the town centre, although I didn’t get to visit the beach! Children were in high spirits, eager to discuss characters’ feelings as we focused on the protagonist’s dilemma in Lockdown Looms. There were plenty of funky and fancy hats bopping in the assemblies as children sang along to New King.
Thank you for having me!

Day 310: St Mary’s Island Primary School
With English Lead, Mrs Collard. Still on a high from World Book Day celebrations, pupils wore wide-brimmed hats to mark my visit. We read excerpts from
Lockdown Looms and recited verses from my up and coming poetry book. With all the energy and enthusiasm they put into singing New King, it was hard to believe it was a Friday afternoon. What a marvellous way to end World Book Week!

Day 306: Pevensey & Westham Primary School
With Head of School, Mrs Kerr, and English Lead, Mr Daines. It was lovely to visit the village of Penvensey today. History enthusiasts, this is where William the Conqueror landed ahead of the Battle of Hastings during the Norman Conquest in 1066!
Using their own knowledge of what happened during Lockdown, pupils, in their fancy hats, were able to make predictions about what they thought might happen next after listening to excerpts from Lockdown Looms. They participated enthusiastically, reciting lines from my up coming poetry book, and sang beautifully as we ended with New King. The very long queue for the book signing after school stretched from the school library and wrapped itself around the corridor.
Thank you for having me!

Day 305: Ringmer Primary School
With English Leader, Miss Cook. Ringmer is a village in East Sussex from which this school takes its name. I was greeted with an enthusiastic welcome as children spotted me entering the building towards the end of lunchtime. In the assemblies, we recited poetry together, discussed characters’ feelings, and read excerpts from Lockdown Looms. The Q & A was thorough, and children showed off their creativity with their array of wide brimmed fancy hats and fancy shoes!
Thank you for having me!

Day 304: The Heights Primary School
With Reading Lead, Mrs Kingshott. Children were in fits of laughter as they participated in a poem from my upcoming poetry collection. The sea of fancy hats was a sure give away that I was in the building, and even the school’s therapy dog got in on the act! There were well thought out questions during the Q & A, and children made sensible predictions about what they thought might happen next. It was fab seeing so many of you during the book signing!
Thank you for having me!

New Horizons Children’s Academy…again!
What happens when you run out of books during a book tour stop? You return on your day off with extra books to meet the children who didn’t get their books signed during the first visit! These pupils were all smiles (behind their freshly signed books)!
Thank you for having me!

Day 303: Hungerford Primary School
With English Co-ordinator, Miss Perry. It’s a wonderful thing to discover new places, and today, I was fortunate enough to travel down to Hungerford for the first time. Prior to today’s visit, I had never heard of Hungerford, so pupils did a brilliant job being ambassadors for their town. We made predictions about what we thought might happen next, brainstormed amazing adjectives, and used our imagination to place ourselves in a character’s shoes. Ten out of ten for the vocal arrangement singing New King. Wow! Some of these fancy hats had a wider brim than mine!
Thank you for having me!

Day 302: New Horizons Children’s Academy
With Assistant Headteacher, Miss Xavier-Cope. Pupils chanted my name as I entered the school grounds. Rain had been falling, but this wasn’t going to stop the celebratory atmosphere. We explored characters’ feelings, descriptive vocabulary, and looked at some of the themes in Lockdown Looms. Children were in fits of laughter singing the ‘baby giraffes’ lyric…hilarious!

Day 299: Hackney New Primary School
With English Lead, Miss Lapani. One of the schools I attended as a child is a stone throw away from this school, so I know the area well! It felt like a full circle moment sharing my work with these children, and letting them know, that just like me, if they worked hard and believed in themselves, they could achieve their dreams! The sun had already set by the time I finished signing books - what a super long queue that was! Parents, I appreciate your patience.
Thank you for having me!

Day 298: St Joseph’s Barking
With Writing Lead, Mr Hicklin. I was most impressed by the singing today. Children certainly came prepared to sing New King and find out all about the journey that led us to the Britain’s Got Talent stage. We read excerpts from Lockdown Looms, recited poetry from my up and coming poetry book, and had an informative Q & A!
Thank you for having me!

Day 297: St Michael’s Primary Reading
With teachers & staff from across the school. We explored how most stories have a problem/dilemma that the main character is faced with and looked at how one might build their plot around a number of themes. There was an exceptionally long queue after school during the book signing, and a few pupils even gifted me with some of their artwork - much obliged!
Thank you for having me!

Day 296: Leigh Beck Jnr School
With Mrs Bussey, who helped organise the visit. I was on a little island today called Canvey Island! We looked at poetry from my up and coming poetry collection, explored the themes in Lockdown Looms, and discussed some of the comical lyrics in New King. The headteacher offered to moonwalk onto centre stage as my song played at the start of the assembly, and children showed off their wonderful singing, belting out, “SIPPING APPLE JUICE FROM MY CHALICE!” I can’t wait to visit again - I heard they have real reindeers on site during the build up to Christmas!
Thank you for having me!

Day 295: St Patrick’s Primary
With Headteacher Mrs Holden. The Q & A today felt like a press conference! Children had done their research and asked relevant questions about my writing journey. They enjoyed making predictions based on the front cover of Lockdown Looms and couldn’t contain their laughter listening to my poem, Freddy’s Soliloquy! It was also so nice to see this headteacher again in a new school.
Thank you for having me!

Day 294: Longlands Primary
With Reading Leads Mrs Baines & Mrs Payton. We discussed how reading could help improve one’s vocabulary and writing style, exploring the link between Shakespeare’s Hamlet and my poem, Freddy’s Soliloquy. Of course we read excerpts from Lockdown Looms and sang New King, followed by an amazing book signing session at the end of the day!
Thank you for having me!

Day 293: St Michael’s CE Primary
With Writing Lead Miss Hotten. It was a busy afternoon discussing the themes in Lockdown Looms and how the characters from that story inspired some of my later work. I signed one hundred and eleven copies of my book today! Talk about dedication…thank you to the parents and staff who waited in the cold to get to the front of the very long line! I enjoyed speaking to you all. With such spirited singers here, it doesn’t surprise me that there was a considerable amount of interest in the new Banji’s Class 2026!
Thank you for having me!

Day 292: Stewart Fleming Primary
With English Lead Miss Haynes and colleague. There was the loudest roar of excitement as some children spotted me walking past their classroom ahead of today’s assemblies. We recited poetry, explored the plot behind Lockdown Looms, and discussed the lyrics behind New King. There were some pretty funky dance moves too as they performed their well rehearsed rendition.
Thank you for having me!

Day 290: Hewens Primary
With Headteacher, Mr Thomas & Literacy Coordinator, Miss Harrison. The school library has a prominent place right at the heart of the school and with the exceptionally long queue of pupils waiting to get a signed copy of my book after school, it’s apparent that they understand that ‘reading will take you everywhere’. Pupils wore fancy hats as we delved into my work, exploring characters’ feelings and discussing how one might become a successful writer.
Thank you for having me!
