In 2018, Harley underwent an operation in the hope of stabilising his spine. Instead, it made things worse. The fused portion of his spine is now crushing his internal organs. His lungs function at just 25%. He is in respiratory failure. He relies on oxygen during the day and a CPAP machine at night just to breathe. The NHS has deemed Harley inoperable. But the family and friends have refused to give up. After seeking a second opinion, they found hope in New York a world-renowned spinal surgeon. He has developed a complex three-part surgical plan — a plan that could not only save Harley’s life but give him back something he has been slowly losing: quality of life. Without this surgery, Harley’s future is heartbreaking and certain. His spine will continue to curve, eventually fusing into his rib cage. Ultimately, his condition will take his life. This life-saving intervention comes at a cost of £2.5 million. Before you think "not a chance" the supporters of the appeal have already raised 500K! Harley lives in immense pain every single day. And yet, if you met him, you would never be greeted with bitterness. You would meet the most compassionate, empathetic, joyful soul — a boy who worries about others before himself. A boy who smiles through suffering. A boy who still dreams. Harley’s life matters. He deserves the chance not just to survive — but to live.
