Building a NYC Bangladeshi-American voting bloc through grassroots, working-class, community-centric political organizing. One step closer to liberation.
Bangladeshi-Americans for Political Progress (BAPP) proudly endorses Zohran Mamdani as our #1 Ranked choice, followed by Brad Lander as #2, and Council Speaker Adrienne Adams at #3.
The 150,000 Bangladeshis from Parkchester to Jackson Heights, to Jamaica and Kensington, Brooklyn are uniting to vote for this slate to ensure New Yorkers can afford to live in this city by electing a mayor who will vote for us. We keep this city running. Let's elect a mayor who will co-govern the city with us.
Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.
This is a threat of genocide and merits removal from office. The President’s mental faculties are collapsing and cannot be trusted.
To every individual in the President’s chain of command: You have a duty to refuse illegal orders. That includes carrying out this threat.
On the two year anniversary of his death, Win Rozario’s family called on @NYCMayor & @NYPDPC to immediately fire NYPD officers Alongi and Cianfrocco who killed Win in his home in March 2024.
Since the shooting, the two officers have collectively earned over $500k.
Today the NYC Council voted on 5 Bills to combat hate.
Everyone deserves to worship safely and without fear. We are seeing a rise in hate violence, and I hear the fear from my constituents. I’ve helped synagogues and mosques in my district coordinate with the NYPD for additional security during religious gatherings.
I was proud to vote today for measures that proactively address hate violence: Int. 22: Educating students about online hate, Int. 297: Providing emergency planning for religious institutions, and Int. 388: Creating a hotline to track hate and bias incidents
Today I voted no on Int. 1-B & Int. 175-B. These bills would require the NYPD to create a plan for “buffer zones” that limit protest around houses of worship and educational facilities. But buffer zone bills give the NYPD too much power to police speech, and raise serious First Amendment concerns.
They undermine the 2020 Summer Protests Settlement, which requires the NYPD to minimize protest policing and follow a tiered, First Amendment–compliant response.
They have an exemption for labor picketing—creating a content- and speaker-based restriction that also violates the First Amendment.
We live in a dense city, covered in schools and houses of worship. Buffer zones around these institutions would cover our city in speech-restricted areas.
When Trump is eroding civil liberties, NYC cannot expand police discretion over when and where people can speak and organize.
Organizations that join me in opposing these bills include: New York Civil Liberties Union, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, Indivisible Brooklyn, and many more civil rights, pro-democracy, reproductive health, LGBTQ, immigrant-rights, and children's advocacy organizations.

Two Muslim women—and one child—were violently attacked in Bay Ridge last week simply for wearing hijab. In Trump’s America, we are seeing leaders and elected officials use language that dehumanizes Muslim people, and that rhetoric has real, human consequences. If we are serious about rooting out Islamophobia, our leaders must do better. As someone who grew up in a virulently anti-Muslim city, I know how deeply this kind of hate shapes daily life and threatens our sense of safety.

Proud of everyone who believed in our vision, knocked on doors, made calls, and showed up to vote. You proved that grassroots organizing builds real power.
Congratulations to @DianaforQueens looking forward to working together for our community.

Viewing this footage takes us back to that horrible moment - when we were trying to get medical care for him and instead NYPD officers arrived. As you can hear on the 911 call, the situation was calm when the call was made, and we were getting ready to go to accompany Jabez. As everyone can see from the body cam footage, we were all calm as the officers arrived. The presence of cops did the opposite and caused the situation to escalate quickly and unnecessarily. Rather than de-escalate the situation, the officer instead further escalated by drawing his gun and yelling orders at Jabez. Within a minute of NYPD's arrival, Jabez was shot multiple times and almost killed, while he was calmly eating food just minutes earlier. This is why officers should not be responding to medical support calls.
“We viewed the body cam footage released yesterday evening from the hospital room of our son who is currently in handcuffs, leg cuffs, and recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. We have endured the past week with immense psychological pressure. Our priority for this past week has been the recovery of our son and making sure his health does not deteriorate. But the speed and intensity with which everything has moved has been overwhelming. We wish we had more time to process as a family, to understand everything that is happening around us, and the time to view the footage as a family before it was released.
BREAKING: Last night, NYPD released bodyworn camera (BWC) footage of Officer Tyree White shooting 22-year-old Jabez Chakraborty in his home in front of his family on January 26. Today we heard the release of the 911 call.
In response, the Chakraborty family issued the following statement:

Corporations will not exploit working people in NYC.
Uber Eats, Fantuan & HungryPanda broke the law — shortchanging workers while raking in profits.
Today, we secured $5M+ in restitution for 49,000 delivery workers.
Let this be a warning: steal wages, face the consequences.
BAPP stands with the Chakraborty family.
BAPP is heartbroken and outraged with the shooting of 22-year old Jabez Chakraborty. Jabez’s family called 911 expecting medical help during a mental health crisis, not police violence. (1/)
