What Happened
In late May 2026, on Highway 16 near Prince George, a mother moose and her twin calves tried crossing. One small calf couldn’t jump the concrete barrier. After failed attempts to coax it over and the mother pacing anxiously on the other side (with the sibling), driver Duane Hogberg (and others) stepped in. He lifted the exhausted calf over and carried it to the bushes where the mom waited. The mother did not act aggressively and the family reunited successfully.

• Real-world evidence: In this specific case, the reunion worked. Similar rescues (e.g., earlier guardrail or fence incidents) also show mothers accepting touched calves.
Exceptions and caveats:
