I think one of the healthiest things I’ve ever learned is that you should allow others to reintroduce themselves to you, even your closest friends. Give people space to become who they are without assuming you know who they are just bc you’ve been friends/family for years
The church doesn’t need your defending. All youre doing is revealing yourself as an unreliable ally who will prioritize institutions over victims. You’re perpetuating the same exceptionalism that enables abuse in the first place, and then cry martyr in response. Just stop it.
i know it’s popular to not tell anyone your plans until they materialize, & was the same way, but lately i’ve been telling people plans. even tiny plans. & they’ve been offering to help lol it’s mind blowing. you cut yourself off from resources by not sharing what’s on your mind.
Barely on ep. 2 but Under the Banner of Heaven already has me so triggered rn lmao
like holy shit it’s such an accurate portrayal of Mormonism and the weird shit i grew up with lol
Ok but Utboh actually really fucked me up — mainstream lds culture at its finest & overall just a tragic heartbreaking story. 10/10 highly recommend lol
One thing I’ve learned in studying religion is the value that people put into institutions and communities —marking them as spaces of safety from “the World.” But it’s increasingly clear that these spaces aren’t safe & haven’t been safe for so many people.
Folks deserve better.
