Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has cancelled the booking of an auditorium for a book discussion on Umar Khalid’s book citing “non-disclosure of the full facts” about the program.
Umar Khalid has been held in jail without trial on charges under UAPA for almost six years now. His PhD thesis was published this June as a book titled ‘Fractured Communities: Adivasi Histories and the Politics of Power’.
The cancellation of the booking was communicated in a letter from the School of Social Sciences (SSS) on Sunday (August 9), a day before the event, which was scheduled at the SSS-I Auditorium on campus from 3 pm to 6 pm on August 10.

Muslims face persecution for quietly offering namaz in a corner.
Kanwariyas take over the entire region. Cause nuisance. Attack a school bus. Disturb public peace and property.
Yet, are showered with flower petals.
The naked majoritarianism is disgusting to watch
#OPINION | It is a matter of utter shame that persons are being detained without trial in independent India, even in the absence of any war, for periods longer than in colonial India during wars, writes Prabhat Patnaik

so what happened to the students studying in these schools? did they go to a private school? did they got enrolled in rss run shakhas or sisu mandirs? or no education at all. but do we care? does the government care? no they are culturally shocked by a minor.
A recent NITI Aayog report said some 94,000 government schools were closed over the past decade, an average of 25 a day, contributing to a 2.26 crore decline in government school enrolment. The government schools’ share of total enrolment has fallen from 71% in 2005 to 49.24% in 2024-25.

Why does the RSS want to infiltrate schools and universities? Because it is terribly afraid that young people might learn to think. Rahul Gandhi’s statement in Parliament was a diagnosis of that ailment. @Apoorvanand__ writes

the kind of outrage these politicians and their bhakts are showing on language used for PM during protest, if only they had this outrage against the PM for neglecting and avoiding the Manipur crisis for years. is Manipur not a part of the union? shameful.
the very kind of people who had a problem with the students protesting and questioned them over morality and language used, does not seem to even care about this. quite telling.

A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit has flagged major irregularities in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) in Chhattisgarh, highlighting governance failures, fund diversion, policy deviations and transparency gaps in the utilisation of the state's District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) funds between 2015-16 and 2023-24.
According to the audit, DMFTs received Rs 13,101 crore, of which Rs 10,253 crore was spent. However, the report found that funds meant for mining-affected communities were diverted to non-priority works, while 754 of 1,734 directly affected villages in sampled districts remained uncovered despite substantial expenditure.
It also flagged unfruitful spending on incomplete projects, violations in procurement procedures, manpower shortages and inadequate planning and monitoring.
