We have enough of everything we need for all people to live a good life. The social and economic problems we face emanate from maldistribution, overdevelopment, and endless accumulation; the politics that sustain these; and their deadly and dehumanizing consequences. Period.
I don’t think most people really grasp how low the federal minimum wage ($7.25) is.
If you get charged $20 for a late fee, that’s almost three times the minimum wage.
If you get an overdraft fee of $30, that’s over four hours (half a standard workday) of minimum wage labor.
We have normalised taking pictures and videos of people without consent. We’ve made it socially acceptable to capture strangers going about their day to post to audiences that they themselves are unaware they’re “entertaining”. There is an entitlement to these actions.
It's extremely fun and very cool that we've all agreed the only way to motivate rich people to work is to give them loads of extra money for no reason but the only way to motivate poor people to work is to take away loads of their money for no reason.
