NIGERIA BORDERS: @atiku forgets:
1: No @atiku Nigeria’s land borders are not generally closed.
-(a): border crossings have been reopened, including crossings with Niger and Benin, while additional security checks are in place at several land borders.
2: In fact, Nigeria is currently strengthening border surveillance, biometric systems and other security measures rather than imposing a blanket closure.
3: Given the recent serious insecurity around border regions—including the mass kidnapping in Niger State reported this week.
-(a): the argument should therefore be about tighter border control and intelligence-led screening, rather than saying Nigeria’s borders are completely closed.
4: The Tsamiya and Kamba border posts were closed for years because of insecurity and cross-border crime.
5: They were reopened in February 2026 to facilitate legitimate trade.
6: But with insecurity still affecting border communities, the government must ensure that border security keeps pace with border reopening.
7: Trade is important, but national security must come first.
