Saturday Corruption Watch – The Real Cost of Offshoring
Rumors are circulating about three manufacturing plants in Mexico facing direct cartel pressure. According to the accounts, cartels demanded protection payments. When the companies refused, operations were disrupted and in at least one case the facilities were effectively vacated under threat. This was the best possible outcome. The latest plants are subsidiaries of a major US conglomerate cashing in on cheap labor.
Mexican cartels have intensified extortion against foreign-owned factories. They demand monthly cuotas, hijack shipments, threaten workers, and punish companies that resist. US firms and their subsidiaries are caught in it. Why no public or media stories? Quite often the companies DO PAY, and they want to limit the exposure.
Every region outside of the USA exposes companies to risk they never accounted for when the CFO and team did their bottom line calculations.
This is the hidden risk of offshoring that rarely makes it into the glossy economic reports. You chase lower labor costs, build plants south of the border, and suddenly you are paying a parallel tax to criminal organizations or spending heavily on security just to stay open. Refuse to pay and you risk shutdowns, arson, or worse. The rule of law is weak. The corruption cost gets passed back to American consumers and investors.
We know exactly where companies can operate without this fear: right here in the United States. Strong property rights, actual law enforcement, and no cartel shakedowns. The math was always flawed once you factor in the real risks, supply chain fragility, and national security exposure.
Offshoring to unstable regions was sold as smart business. In practice it has been a long transfer of wealth, knowledge, and leverage away from American workers while subsidizing corrupt systems abroad.
The rumors on these three plants are a reminder. Cheap on paper often comes with costs we were never supposed to see.
Just like the Walmart H1B visa kickback scheme when this story actually breaks, people will forget that the news broke here on a CE post first.
Anyone else hear of this incident or any others?

Dual incomers report better financial security, but each 1% increase results in only a 0.6% increase in their kids’ well being. While each 1% sacrifice in finances from moms raising kids at home leads to a 2% increase in child well being. Everybody knows this tradeoff intuitively, but this gives a clear sense of the magnitude (i.e. it’s huge).
If there was proper accountability Gregor Robertson @gregorrobertson should already be facing formal investigations and potential disqualification from public office for his central role in this developer-political web that has now produced a $3,200,000,000 taxpayer-funded rescue of failed condo projects. As mayor, he presided over Vision Vancouver’s dependence on massive real estate donations, including the grotesque $25,000-per-plate private lunch organized by Bob Rennie in March 2014, where insiders bought intimate access while his administration approved density and zoning changes that supercharged the luxury investor boom. That same boom delivered unsold towers now glutting the market, and Robertson, as federal housing minister, should not be the one co-announcing the bailout that directly benefits the very network he cultivated.
In a system that actually valued accountability, Helen Chan Sun would be permanently barred from any future development approvals or public subsidies following her jailing for contempt and documented financial shenanigans, rather than quietly benefiting from government purchases of her distressed units. Daljit Thind and his family, with their history of alleged fund diversions and massive lender claims, would be forced to absorb full personal losses instead of receiving subsidized exits through the program. Jerry Zhong, facing multimillion-dollar misappropriation allegations, and figures like Manish Sharma and the Wave Developments principals would confront real market consequences and regulatory bans, not cushioned recoveries.
Bob Rennie himself, the marketer who profited from selling both the projects and the political access, should be under scrutiny for his repeated role in high-dollar fundraisers that blurred lines between commerce and governance. Instead of this seamless loop of donations, approvals, overbuilding, bust, and bailout, independent prosecutors would be examining breach of trust, conflict of interest, and influence peddling across the entire chain.
The public deserves full forensic audits of every unit purchase under this program, clawbacks of prior incentives, lifetime bans for the worst actors, and strict donation prohibitions from the development industry. Only then would this corrosive cycle finally break, restoring some faith that public office serves citizens rather than rewarding the connected failures of a captured real estate machine. Anything less simply guarantees the next identical scandal.

So @BretBaier speaks to @patrickbetdavid on the

All Keir Starmer could do was downplay the issue of generations of British girls being raped, pimped and prostituted by Muslim Pakistani gangs, telling Bret the issue has been 'overblown'.
We will NEVER get justice for the children of the UK as long as we have politicians like Keir Starmer in positions of power.

Freaking unbelievable - PM Carney is bailing out developers with your money
Mark Carney just announced a de facto bailout for Vancouver-area developers.
With 2,500 finished but unsold condos sitting empty in Metro Vancouver alone, Carney and BC NDP Premier David Eby plan to use taxpayer dollars and “innovative financing” to buy and convert them into “affordable housing.”
Developers don’t want to sell at a loss and can’t hold them forever — taxpayers foot the bill so that the federal Liberals and BC NDP are stepping in to rescue them instead of letting the market correct prices downward.
The grotesque pay-for-access scheme orchestrated by Vancouver condo marketer Bob Rennie in March 2014 stands as blatant evidence of premeditated corruption that helped fuel the very oversupply now demanding a $3,200,000,000 taxpayer bailout. Rennie, the self-proclaimed Condo King whose firm dominated presales for luxury investor towers, personally organized an exclusive private lunch fundraiser charging $25,000 per plate for direct, intimate access to Mayor Gregor Robertson. This high-dollar event funneled massive sums into Vision Vancouver’s coffers while giving real estate insiders, including major developers, the chance to bend the ear of the man in charge of zoning, density approvals, and housing policy at the peak of the condo boom. Robertson eagerly participated, accepting this elite donor access without apology, even as his party relied on real estate money for the majority of its funding and green-lit wave after wave of speculative towers that later collapsed into receiverships and unsold inventory.
Rennie profited handsomely from marketing those same doomed projects, creating a seamless loop where he sold political influence to the people whose developments he then sold to speculators. This was not casual networking but a calculated auction of mayoral power that prioritized big money over public interest, ensuring policies favored aggressive overbuilding of small luxury units for investors rather than actual housing needs. Years later, with those projects now glutting the market and requiring government intervention, Robertson reappears as federal housing minister co-announcing the bailout that rescues the very network he courted for $25,000 plates in 2014. The premeditation is sickening. Rennie set up the access, developers and marketers paid for it, Robertson delivered the approvals, and taxpayers now foot the bill for the inevitable bust. No one in this circle faced consequences then, and none appear likely to now, as the same insiders continue to shape outcomes while ordinary Canadians subsidize their failures. This single event encapsulates the rotten core of Vancouver’s developer-political machine.
🚨 Big Tech just saved Canadians from their own government.
Here’s what Bill C-22 would have done to your phone. 👇
📌 The Liberal bill would force companies to build technical backdoors into encrypted devices - giving government access without a judge’s approval.
📌 Secret orders. No judicial oversight. No transparency with users. Ministers could compel compliance unilaterally.
📌 User metadata retained for up to one year. Mandatory.
Then Big Tech showed up.
📌 Apple to Parliament: “When you build a backdoor into an encrypted device - anyone can walk through.”
📌 Google: Bill C-22 “goes well beyond lawful access regimes in other G7 democracies.”
📌 Meta: The bill would make WhatsApp and Messenger “an extension of the government’s surveillance apparatus.”
📌 Signal, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Windscribe, ProtonVPN all threatened to leave Canada entirely if it passed.
📌 Apple pointed to the 2024 Salt Typhoon cyberattack on US systems - which exploited the exact same “lawful access” infrastructure Carney wants to build here.
“That law was narrower than Bill C-22. Imagine what could happen here.”
Think about that. 👆
The Chinese government hacked US systems through a legal backdoor Washington created.
Carney wants to build a bigger one. In Canada.
And he didn’t ask you. 🤐
This isn’t about catching criminals.
If it was - they’d require a judge.
This is a government that funded $1.4B in CBC propaganda, appointed 740 judges, captured 105 senators —
And now wants a backdoor into your phone. 📱
Without a warrant. 👇
Apple and Google did more to protect Canadian civil liberties this month than the Liberal Party has in 10 years.
Let that land. 🇨🇦
🔁 Repost before this gets buried.

@KatKanada_TM Can the Liberals do this?
Trying to change the base of private property.
Referendum, provinces agree?
Looks like Carney & Eby are trying to funnel $ Billions & land to indigenous groups.
National security issue too. Sell land to foreign governments.
Pals getting kickbacks?
Of all the industries to subsidize, real estate developers should be somewhere near the bottom of the list, next to the owners of gambling websites and vape shops.
