Fortescue is an Australian mining company which was founded just around 20 years ago. Today, it alone produces over 200 million tonnes of iron ore every year.
India, as an entire country, produces 300 million tonnes. India's geology is better than Australia's. Iron ore changed the face of Australia's economy. India has all the potential to become a leading producer and create massive jobs and livelihoods.
Government should be production-minded, not revenue-minded. Instead of very high premiums, the goal should be maximum production.
Huge investment is needed in the infrastructure for iron ore mining.
Only large players can do that. Like Australia, we need 3 or 4 large producers.
This will lead to a tripling of production and elimination of imports. And help achieve India's target of 300 million tonnes of steel production.
Glasgow 2026 just concluded yesterday.
A slew of medals & a fourth place overall finish for India.
But of everything from these games, two stories touched me deeply.
A judoka whose father fixed cycles for ₹300 a day, in a mud house, & didn’t live to see his daughter become the first Indian, man or woman, to win Commonwealth Games judo gold.
And a farmer’s son from an Aligarh village who ran on dirt trails just to pass the Army fitness test, & last week became the first Indian ever to win two track medals at a single Games.
Asmita Dey. Gulveer Singh.
No shortcuts, no head starts.
Just hunger & the refusal to stay where they started.
This is what ‘Rise’ actually looks like.
A mud house & a village trail.
No words would be enough to explain why they inspire me.

I fully empathise with Prime Minister @narendramodi's appeal to save foreign exchange in this time of crisis and uncertainty.
One way to do this is to consume less. The other way is to produce more. PM's pain points are oil and gold, India's two biggest imports, more than 30% of the total. If you add other resources from below the ground, it becomes 50%.
Given our geology and our existing assets, we can massively increase production quickly. It has happened in past.
Two things are required: privatisation and self-certification in clearances.
Overall, in the below-the-ground sector, there are 24 PSUs which can be privatised and will result in manifold increase in production.
Completing the privatisation of companies like HZL (govt holds 26%) and BALCO (govt holds 49%) will also result in much more output and jobs.
When Vedanta acquired HZL in 2002, India was import-dependent for zinc. Today, we are self-reliant. With exactly the same assets. We did R&D and started producing silver and lead, which no one had imagined. And now we are in the process of doing R&D to produce rare earths.
In aluminium, output was 1 lakh tonne, and now we are in the process of producing 60 lakh tonnes.
I am 100% confident that India can produce enough resources domestically with existing assets (new assets take longer) to mostly take away imports.
Government should trust the private sector to entirely eliminate any vulnerability on account of imports of oil, gold, silver, copper, fertiliser, and many other resources.
We will deliver for India.
Voters often have a short memory and forget the mistakes of the past quickly. But we cannot afford to forget this. These events need to be remembered for a long time so that the same betrayals don't happen again.
The tragedy in Chhattisgarh is deeply painful. 20 families have lost everything. Proper compensation, livelihood support for the families, and a thorough investigation are non-negotiable.
But naming Shri @AnilAgarwal_Ved Ji in the FIR before any investigation raises serious concerns. He is a self-made man from a humble and backward community background who built a global enterprise from scratch. He had no role in that plant's operations.
When accidents happen in PSU plants or Railways, do we name the Chairman? We do not. The same standard must apply to the private sector too.
Investigate first. Establish responsibility based on evidence. Then act.
India's #ViksitBharat vision needs people like Shri Anil Agarwal to keep investing and building. That happens only when investors trust the system. 🇮🇳
@AnilAgarwal_Ved A tragic loss for the entire Vedanta family. Having witnessed the management's deep-rooted commitment to a 'Safety First' culture, we must use this devastating moment to further strengthen our operations and resolve. We will continue to strive for a zero-harm environment.
From humble beginnings to the world stage - meet Sakshi, an #IronLady.
Born with a visual impairment, she’s now representing India 🇮🇳 at the 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Paris.
We at @vedanta_group are proud to support her journey.

Over the last three years, the growth in demand for metals in India has far exceeded the growth of mineral production. Growth of copper consumption was 22% while production of copper concentrate grew only 4%. For aluminium, consumption grew by 13% but raw material bauxite only grew at 6%. For ferroalloys, consumption has grown at 30% while production of chromite and associated minerals has only grown at 6%. Even the demand for steel at 13% is faster than the growth of iron ore at 11%.
What this means is that India’s imports of these minerals and metals is only growing steadily. Even for oil, average demand over last three years has grown at 6% whereas domestic production growth has fallen by 1%. Already 50% of our annual import bill, around $380 billion out of $760 billion is on account of natural resources. As the economy is growing at a fast pace, demand for metals and oil will grow even faster.
India has huge geological potential in all minerals, including oil, particularly sweet crude. We must make use of it. Private sector must be encouraged in exploration. Clearances must be granted on a self-certification basis. We should look at brownfield expansion of assets like Hindustan Copper, Bharat Gold Mine, Hutti Gold Mines with private sector participation. Not only will imports come down but crores of jobs and opportunities will be created, especially for those with less skills, completely eradicating poverty. Every country that has advanced has made optimal use of below the ground resources. We should also.
