@eyesup314@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC I appreciate your perspective and the article you sent was very interesting. For the record, I think that government and charities should work together to solve these types of issues, but I don’t agree with the argument that charity is good because its funding isn’t guaranteed.
@XxspYbOyxX@illitaret@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC bro all you’ve been is performative. We get it, ur the enlightened one who thinks that “gubment bad” and is afraid of offering a solution becausing complaining online is easier. Of course the overcharging middle men are bad and dilute a lot of the good that governments can do.
@eyesup314@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC I 100% agree. But just because you have a job doesn’t mean you don’t have food insecurity. Government can fill in the gaps through universal school lunch, EBT, and other programs.
@eyesup314@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC Maybe in extremely small communities, but communities did not handle food insecurity themselves in the aggregate. Food insecurity only started being tracked by the government as a statistic in the 1990s! Also, nice job avoiding the question about why charities haven’t solved it
@XxspYbOyxX@illitaret@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC All change starts with advocacy, retard. You act like that’s an obvious statement I made but whenever solutions are suggested you nihilistic losers bristle at the thought.
@eyesup314@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC I ask again, why haven’t charities solved issues related to food insecurity? Charities can be great partners of government, but you need government to be involved in an issue as big as food insecurity.
@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC Sort of. Kind of hard to explain on twitter though. Basically, charity is naturally going to have more free riders than a universal government benefits. If everyone is mandated to pay into a system, you don’t have to worry about cash shortages and the vast majority contribute.
@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC You run into the free-rider program, though. Mandated taxation ensures that everyone contributes to shared resources. If everything is handled by charity, you’re going to run into people who benefit from a resource, but don’t contribute to it even though they could.
@eyesup314@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC I’m so glad that you want to volunteer your time, that’s great! But shouldn’t we choose the most effective and direct way of addressing this issue? A bunch of disjointed volunteers, as good as their intentions are, aren’t going to solve this issue. If they could, they would’ve.
@illitaret@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC There are tons of benefits to universal free lunch. The big one is that kids do better in school when they aren’t hungry. They have better test scores and are less absent. Having it be universal also decreases the stigma of being poor and lowers the admin costs of means testing.
@eyesup314@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC Why would I donate money to a public school when I could just pay a bit more in taxes? Don’t guilt other people into doing what we should all have a responsibility to do. Don’t free-ride off of other people’s charity, because you shouldn’t expect any in return.
@illitaret@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC They’re kids, bro. They didn’t ask for their parents not to feed them, they don’t control who their parents are. The least we can do as a society is feed them nutritious food. Those kids are the future, and we will rely on all of them in due time.
@PrydaCam92@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC As opposed to charities, which always have well-managed finances, have no corruption, and are super accountable to the people…
@anon9472@jared_shult@ReaganCaucusNC So then we should put more money into providing good quality, healthy lunches. Half the reason why school meal are shitty is because schools usually have to work with shoestring budgets
