Thoughts from an anonymous baseball insider and how to apply the data.
The Red Sox have been taking a ton of flack for the Kyle Harrison trade. Many teams are worried to trade pieces that might come back to bite them. 2 thoughts,
2. Does it have anything to do with org or the org the player was traded too? Maybe the fresh start revitalized the player to make changes on his own he otherwise wouldn’t have.
Misiorowski didn’t throw a fastball below a 115 Spin+. With his best being a 162.6 at 102.8 with 18.4” of VB and 8.6” of HB. Averaging 137.7 on the day
Overall been very excited about this new data since hearing about it @sabr conference this spring. If anyone has questions/suggestions please reach out!
Following Baseball Savant's release of timing metrics, I threw together some loosely based visuals based on the data. The data shows timing Metrics (Early, On Time, Late in (ms)), but also contact in relation to the bat. (Over/Under, Flailed/Tied Up (in.))
Savant's Perfect Timing metric includes contact that is 'On Time, Centered and Lined Up.' Juan Soto comes in at 12th in Perfect Timing%, with his 93rd Percentile Exit Velo carrying him to a .906 OPS, 13th best in the league.
