Statements from both @siliconslopes and Entrata CEO Dave Bateman on the comments many deemed "sexist" and "offensive" at the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit. Story to follow
@fellowduster@suzannemariew@davidbateman@siliconslopes Again with the “offended”. One commits an offense, one receives an insult. Language is subtle, nuanced, and powerful. Pay attention to what we are actually saying and try to learn from this. Otherwise, you’re shouting into the void.
@TrentMano I’m still surprised there wasn’t a bare minimum immediate audible groan from the 20k assembled. Or an immediate and very public response from the @siliconslopes organizers. It took calling him out via twitter to get an awkward and unprofessional apology in one session.
@Patti55427396@davidbateman@siliconslopes I’m pretty sure the only ones using the word “offended” are the ones insisting they’re not. We were insulted, humiliated, and demeaned. Those are things one does TO another. We can’t choose to not be insulted by @davidbateman but he could have chosen to not insult us.
So @davidbateman just humiliated all of the women at @siliconslopes#SSTS19. Saying they love women at @EntrataSoftware, had all the women stand, then started introducing @AROD, telling the women “he’s taken.” He moves on, forgets about the ladies as they awkwardly sit back down.
