No, Jesus changed the rules. Before Jesus, getting into heaven required regular sacrifices, studying and memorizing scripture, following the original Jewish doctrine, among other things… Then Jesus came along, and all of that changed. So no, the Jews before Jesus didn’t go to hell. They had to “earn” their way into heaven. Jesus said you don’t have to earn anything. You need only accept him as the son of God and savior of humanity. From that point forward, Jesus was (and still is) the only way to get to heaven.
