I have a feeling that someone might have set up these accounts specifically to stir up online battles on behalf of this government. There was this guy on Suits who suddenly appeared during the discussions about the new tax law. He started explaining as if he personally had a hand in writing the law. Soon after, more suit guys showed up, engaging enthusiastically and explaining whenever people applied pressure to the government. It’s almost as if there’s a coordinated effort behind the scenes

Hajiya Asiya's pain is real and visible. Nobody watches this video without feeling it.

But the specific ask buried in it, that the President say a word to make all this stop, is constitutionally the one thing he cannot do without handing the opposition confirmation that this administration controls prosecutions.

The legitimate asks- medical access, access to lawyers, access to family, bail on reasonable terms- all of those have a proper address. The courts. Not Aso Rock.

If those constitutional rights are genuinely being denied, the courts will remedy it. That is the correct channel. And if the ICPC has indeed facilitated medical access as they claim, and it was the physician who created the problem by making false statements, then the family's grievance has a different address entirely.

The President's silence in this specific situation is not abandonment. It is the only response that protects both El-Rufai's case and the integrity of the process.

Development or Political Patronage?
As a Northerner, I’m deeply disappointed by what the North West Development Commission has become before it even found its footing.

A commission created to tackle poverty, insecurity, unemployment and poor infrastructure is now making headlines over the Senate’s scrutiny of about ₦943 million spent on board allowances and related expenses.

Even more concerning is the culture that keeps producing these outcomes. When key positions in public institutions are filled through political influence instead of an open, merit-based process that attracts the best minds from our universities, industries and civil service, efficiency suffers and accountability becomes weaker.

Northern Nigeria doesn’t lack brilliant economists, engineers, planners, agriculturists and development experts. Yet too often, political patronage appears to outweigh competence.

We should stop celebrating appointments and start demanding results. Every kobo allocated to the North should be visible in better roads, schools, hospitals, jobs and security, not endless explanations before legislative committees.

Loving the North means holding our leaders accountable, regardless of whose political camp they belong to.

SENATE INVESTIGATES NORTH WEST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

The Senate Committee on Regional Development has raised eyebrows over spending at the North West Development Commission.

Lawmakers allege that nearly 79 percent of N1.19 billion spent by the commission, about N943 million, went to board allowances.

They also queried why NWDC is the only regional commission without executive directors and employees since it was inaugurated in February 2025.

The oversighting ministry, the board and managing Director explained to the committee some problems affecting operations.

The committee however insists that urgent action is needed for the commission to deliver on development and security in the North West.
