Pearls of the Blessed Ramadan (1)!

The first tafseer of this month of Ramadan (1447H/2026G) took place at Annoor Masjeed, Wuse 2, Abuja, and x-rayed Chapter 3, Verse 185 of the Glorious Qur'an.

Allah says in the verse: "Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception."

Some of the major lessons from the verse are:

1) Death is inevitable for everyone: humans, jinns, animals, and birds. This is also emphasized in Surah Az-Zumar: 68.

2) Population Reference Bureau (PRB) states approximately that 117 billion people have lived in this world. Of this number, 109 billion are dead, while around 8 billion are alive. Out of every hundred who have lived, only 6 are alive, while 94 are already dead.

3) The Prophet also admonished us to always remember the cutter-off of delights (Tirmidhi: 2307).

4) Death occurs to both the soul and the body. As a result, when the soul leaves the body, the body will cease to function, one organ after the other. Some could continue to function for almost 24 hours.

5) The reward of the hereafter is according to the quality of our actions, both good and bad.

6) The greatest blessing of both worlds is to be taken away from hellfire and be admitted to paradise.

7) Worldly life is a life of deception. As a result, we are encouraged to live in it within the bonds set by Allah, and our priority must be the hereafter always.

May Allah register us among the major beneficiaries of the month of Ramadan.

I am not politically aligned with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. He is the leader of the NNPP, while I am a committed member of the APC, but political differences, however, should never make us abandon fairness or justice. It is therefore important to state clearly that unfairly linking him to the killings of Christians in this country is wrong and unjust. In recent history, there has been no terrorist incident specifically targeting Christians in his State, Kano.

We may disagree politically, but on matters of truth and justice, we must be consistent. So, on this issue, we stand with Sen. Kwankwaso.

In fairness, we should not expect a person, especially someone as well educated as Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, to hold on to opinions and views formed over 20 years ago. A lot has changed within that period, society has evolved, realities have shifted and knowledge has expanded. Yet, some people still expect others to remain rigid-minded individuals, someone who insists on clinging to ideas, methods and ways of thinking from two or three decades ago and forcing them on today’s world. That is bad.

If education, science and technology had not been continuously updated in line with global developments, the world would never have achieved the progress we see today, let alone human beings themselves. Growth is a product of learning, exposure and the willingness to reassess old positions.

Prof. Pantami is absolutely right to change his opinions about politics and life, especially when his continuous pursuit of education and knowledge has shown him better and more informed paths than those he previously held.

We should know that changing opinions and views in the face of deeper understanding is not a weakness, it is a mark of wisdom and intellectual maturity.

So it is Pantami for Gombe 2027.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) says: Fear Allah and treat your children justly and kindly (Bukhari: 2447). It's not permissible to show preference to boys over girls or vice versa. Children should be treated fairly and with kindness irrespective of their gender.

I had the pleasure of receiving Barrister P. S. Egure, Chancellor of Obong University, on a distinguished courtesy visit to the REA this morning. Our meeting centred on forging a strategic partnership aimed at capacity development for Obong University’s students. We explored collaborative training programmes in renewable energy—a step that will not only enrich students’ learning experiences but also equip them with practical, money-generating, and employable skills essential for Nigeria’s sustainable future.

This discussion, which complements REA’s ongoing efforts to expand rural electrification and promote sustainable energy solutions, promises to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical industry applications. It is a significant stride toward nurturing a skilled workforce that will drive Nigeria’s renewable energy revolution and foster long-term socio-economic growth.
