But after Tuesday's loss to Robert Morris, Guy Gadowsky is still searching for answers:

"I don't know where to go from here. I'm very disappointed, and it's not an analytical thing. It's not a system thing."

The Nittany Lions return to Pegula on Friday night to face Canisius.

Backup QB Alex Manske has been nominated for the Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award, which is presented annually to a player who has displayed courage on or off the field, including overcoming an injury or physical disability.

Manske made his Penn State debut in September after undergoing open-heart surgery in the spring.

“I feel that the success of this program in the last two years - we've had two pretty darn good years - and I think that there's a feeling that it's just going to come easy.

“This is a terrible word to say, but I'm just telling you the honest truth of how I feel. I feel it's arrogance. I feel it's arrogance. I feel that we are.”

Criticism of QB Rocco Becht has risen sharply as Penn State continues its prolonged losing skid.

While Matt Campbell recognizes there is room for improvement, his support of Becht hasn't wavered in recent weeks:

"I think it’s one of those situations where you can certainly look at some of those small areas that are critically important, and those are things that we’ve got to continue to fill in and continue to grow forward. But I would tell you, and I firmly believe this, we wouldn’t even be in the position where we’re at right now to succeed in these football games if we didn’t have Rocco Becht and the way he’s played in some of those other moments.

"Obviously, in the position he plays, no different than all of us, you look at the negative because you’re not getting the result that you want. But I would say there’s a lot of things that Rocco’s doing really well that’s putting us in a great position to be successful."

Penn State football has looked disjointed on the field early in the Matt Campbell era, but the Nittany Lions’ new head coach says that Pat Kraft and Neeli Bendapudi remain all-in on his long-term vision:

"I think what I love about both of them is they are both great competitors in their own right, and they both want this to be done, but also done the right way. And I feel like there is great value in that, and there is great alignment in that. And I'm really grateful for the conversations, for them being there for us every step of the way. And that part of it, I am very grateful for.”

BREAKING: Cael Sanderson says two-time national champion Levi Haines is preparing for a fifth season with Penn State wrestling.

There are several ongoing court cases around the country regarding additional eligibility for NCAA athletes. Haines is ensuring that he is ready to go, just in case the opportunity arises:

"He's in class right now. He'd probably rather not be in class, but he's preparing just in case he gets that opportunity. Just like anybody else, we're just waiting to hear the final word. It's been a pretty wild five years of ups and downs and changes and twists and turns. But everyone's in the same boat, and everyone's trying to navigate and figure out what they're doing."

On Tuesday, Matt Campbell reaffirmed that Penn State is not moving on from Rocco Becht as its starting quarterback.

The Nittany Lions are not planning on giving backup Alex Manske an elevated role heading into next week's matchup with Purdue:

"We have complete faith in Rocco Becht, and Rocco has continued to obviously play good football. And there’s times - and there’s a couple moments - that he would love to have back, and we know that's part of the game.

"...From an Alex standpoint, we have great belief that he’s going to have a bright future. His time will come, and when that time comes, we’ll be excited for that opportunity. But obviously, that time’s not right now."
