America pumps more crude than any country on earth. So why are we buying diesel from Russia?
Why is the Gulf shipping diesel overseas while the Northeast runs short? And why can’t more drilling fix it?
Think of a barrel of crude like a steer headed to the packing plant. You get some ribeye, a lot of ground beef and plenty you’ll never see on a menu. Diesel is only about 30% of the barrel, and our plants are already full. Nobody can raise a steer that’s all ribeye.
Adam Butcher (@TheTXOilMan) explains what’s really behind $6 diesel, and what would actually help:

If tax treatment is what makes a well worth owning, it isn’t worth owning.
Direct oil and gas offers undeniable tax advantages, including up to a 100% first-year write-off through IDCs and bonus depreciation. But a write-off only changes what you keep; it doesn’t create the return. If the rock doesn’t produce, no tax code will save the investment.
At Basin Ventures, we underwrite non-operated working interests (NOWIs) on geology, operator execution, and cash flow first. Tax efficiency should be a byproduct of owning a great asset, never the sole reason to buy it.

Thank you to Texas State Senator Mayes Middleton for joining us and sharing his legal and regulatory perspective on Texas energy.
If you couldn’t make it live, the full replay is up. Our view this quarter is that volatility, not the price level, is what matters. Every disruption abroad keeps new supply disciplined and makes producing domestic assets more valuable. We also covered why AI-driven power demand is a long-term driver for U.S. natural gas, and walked through the latest production updates across our funds.
To our investors: thank you for your trust. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way.

Emergency oil reserves buy time. They don’t create new supply.
In his latest piece, “The Shock Absorbers Are Spent,” Basin Ventures President Adam Butcher (@thetxoilman) examines what the next supply disruption could look like after emergency stockpiles have been drawn down, and why rebuilding American energy supply matters.
The investment perspective goes beyond the next price spike. It’s about supporting domestic production, maintaining disciplined underwriting, and owning a piece of the energy the economy depends on.

In his latest piece featured in The Federalist, our President Adam Butcher (@thetxoilman) breaks down why temporary policy interventions and price rhetoric consistently fail to address fundamental supply shortages.
While drawing down emergency reserves and attempting to talk down prices might offer short-term optics, these tactics ultimately mute the market signals operators need to commit long-term capital to new drilling programs. Adam outlines five practical policy resets Washington should make—from establishing predictable reserve refill plans to fixing permitting—to restore market confidence and allow domestic production to meet demand.

After 15 years of flat electricity demand, AI data centers are driving the biggest US power surge in a generation.
A server farm needs power at 3:00 AM in January. Wind and solar can't supply that 24/7 load on their own, and new nuclear takes a decade to build. That leaves one firm, immediate fuel: natural gas.
The market is already making its move:
• Meta is backing 10 new gas plants to power a single Louisiana campus.
• GE Vernova’s gas equipment backlog just reached 100 gigawatts.
• Siemens Energy is taking turbine orders at double its shipping capacity.
Adam Butcher (@thetxoilman) walks through the demand data, addresses local objections, and explains why 2027–2028 will mark the tightest stretch for American natural gas.

You can spend billions building a data center, but without power, it’s just expensive real estate.
Across the country—and especially in Texas—the massive surge in computing infrastructure is driving an unprecedented demand for reliable energy.
At Basin, we invest in American oil and natural gas. For us, the data center boom isn't just a tech story; it’s an energy story. It requires paying close attention to where that power will come from and when the grid will actually feel it.
Interconnects and construction take time, but the demand catalyst behind them is undeniable. Watch our Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Tim Davis, break this down in a recent keynote.
Stock investors own a ticker. Basin investors own the ACTUAL production.

We were honored to welcome many dedicated public servants to Dragon Stadium Friday night, from the first responders who serve and protect our communities to Tarrant County Judge @TimothyOHare and Tarrant County Commissioner @MattKrauseTX, who joined us on the field for the ceremonial coin toss.
Thank you to all our public servants for their leadership, commitment and service to our community! 🐉🏈
And thank you to @BasinVentures, our Carroll ISD athletics title sponsor.
US crude production is near record highs. Diesel crossed $6 a gallon this morning for the first time ever. Both true at the same time, which sounds impossible until you see where the actual problem is.
It isn't at the wellhead. It's at the refinery, and in the tankers that can't get where they need to go.
Our own refineries are running at 98% of capacity, which is about as hard as they can run. The grades of crude that make diesel are the ones stuck behind the Strait of Hormuz. And the government's own forecast has diesel supply staying tight into 2027.
Here's the part that matters if you're wondering what to do about it. Every household in America pays the energy bill whether prices go up or down. A much smaller number of Americans own the other side of it. Our President, Adam Butcher (@TheTXOilMan), walks through the week's data in plain English and makes the case that oil isn't inflationary if you own it.

You can't call it the largest oil and gas deal in world history and expect anybody to talk about anything else this week.
So I'll be posting more than usual. If you get Venezuela'd out, I get it.
Venezuela. What it is and what it isn't.
Win first: 65 billion barrels moving out from under Chinese and Russian partners is a real national security win. We talk about natural gas in exactly these terms. Oil is no different.

The SPR is drained. Cushing is near rock bottom. Adam Butcher's take: stop pulling artificial levers and let supply and demand work. Higher prices put rigs back to work. That's how you drill, baby, drill.

Western Europe is a willing buyer and is asking for American natural gas. @thetxoilman on @RealAmVoice : the constraint is on our side. Gulf Coast LNG facilities need permitting and building, and the pipeline network needs to catch up with what we already produce.
