Established in 1847 as the first engineering college in India, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee has played a pivotal role in shaping India's technical human resources and knowledge base.

@iitroorkee has achieved several milestones since then, including "Most Innovative Institute" by the CII Industrial Innovation Awards (2020-2023) and the Questel IP Excellence Award 2022 for intellectual property. Its start-up Indi Energy won the National Startup Award 2022.

The institute also earned the Counterterrorism Innovator Award for a blast-resistant helmet design. Additionally, IIT Roorkee is a pioneer in quantum research through the National Quantum Mission and CFQT and has licensed three environmentally sustainable technologies.

The institute offers various programs in engineering, sciences, management, architecture and planning, humanities, and social sciences. With 23 departments and 13 specialised centres, including the Centre for Space Science and Technology, Mehta Family School of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, and the International Centre of Excellence for Dams, it exemplifies a commitment to cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Starting in the 2023-24 session, the institute has revamped its UG curriculum to prepare students for the future. New courses include AI/ML, Data Science, Indian Knowledge System (IKS), Tinkering and Mentoring, Talent Enhancement Basket (TEB), Entrepreneurship, Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESSC), Soft Skills, and Design Thinking-based projects.

The establishment of departments such as the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Mitigation & Management, Centre for Sustainable Energy, Centre for Sustainable Rural Development, Centre for Dam Safety, and Centre for Nanotechnology highlights the institute’s commitment to addressing societal challenges and advancing various fields.

Additionally, the institute offers a joint MTech in Semiconductor Technology with select Taiwanese universities, focusing on semiconductor materials, devices, and fabrication processes, aligning with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

Such a pathetic experience in @IndiGo6E today. Our flight 6E5327 for Lucknow got cancelled due to some runway issues at the Lucknow airport. We were in the plane for about 3 hrs and later there was just one person handle over 150 passengers. Now 6th hr and still no clue.
