@joelycett Just left your show-haven’t laughed so hard in ages. Big fan.
Let me know if you want a personal tour of where Melbourne’s #bats hang out. All 30,000 of them.
They could use a laugh - they are just hanging around in the wet.
#Deforestation & land clearing for beef is having a devastating impact on Queensland’s #forests & bushlands & those that call them home.
Will you add ask Australia’s big supermarkets & fast food chains to eliminate deforestation from their #beef products? https://t.co/U778DBSnzp
Aussies have a right to know if their burgers are coming from #deforestation. Many producers are managing the land in a way that protects nature, while also improving future productivity of their land. Those sustainable farming practices need to be required by the whole industry.
NEW analysis by @wilderness_aus reveals the majority of land cleared for #beef in Queensland is linked to vital threatened species habitat.
Between 2019-20, 418,456 ha of land in QLD was affected by #deforestation & land clearing.

A few personal notes:
I was just at a NASA team meeting for 3 days in DC. The scientific findings are so fucked up. Experts on tropical rainforests told me privately that they think the Amazon has already passed its tipping point. Let that sink in. The world needs to know
But was it? Not so much for nature.
Only seed investments for a new EPA & funds for national parks.
Please comment on @tanya_plibersek's tweet—tell the Environment Minister how disappointed you are in the lack of increased funding for endangered species & world heritage sites!
Even as she resigns #JacindaArdern inspires. She has taken stock of what she & her family needs - & bravely has made the decision to walk away, head held high knowing what she has achieved.
I am excited to see what she decides to do next…after a rest!

How exciting! The Southern Bentwing Bat won
#AusMammalOfTheYear!! I have been honoured to see these little guys up close and to co-author their National Recovery Plan.
This critically endangered species needs all the attention it can get! @CosmosMagazine

You're right Tanya, we do need to do better to protect nature for all Australians. #Extinctionisachoice & #nature needs to be a priority.
We need strong new nature laws & an independent watchdog to enforce them. We hope to see action outlined for both these on Tuesday #auspoll
Interested in making habitat for 🐞🐝🦋 and 🐦 in your suburb? I am seeking expressions of interest from residents in Brunswick, Fawkner and Coburg (Vic) areas who would like to volunteer their nature strips for a study. See the link in the 🧵 for more info and please share & rt
@SciKaytee I hear you. Is it because there is so much expectation around our careers that leads to working such long hours, or the arrival of kids that sucks the last sparks of energy? Or maybe that we have higher expectations of new friends we are investing our time into getting to know?
Protecting nature is central to a safe climate & a liveable planet.
Beyond the election, nature needs to be a government priority, like aged care, defence or gender equality.
#Extinction & habitat destruction cannot be side issues that get tossed a few bucks toward a solution.
People want forests protected, the mindless release of fossil fuels ended, & #NewNatureLaws.
We welcome the new @AustralianLabor government’s commitment to strong new #naturelaws & an independent watchdog to enforce those laws.

What the election result shows is nature & climate can no longer be brushed aside, or treated as a side issue by Governments any longer.
Communities rightly expect to be genuinely heard on #environment decisions that affect them & our future. #NewNatureLaws#auspol
