#FreshCrackFriday is upon us! This @BarrellBourbon #PrivateRelease from @batchtucson is a sweet & spicy delight #RyeWhiskey finished in #Tokaji wine barrels. Checking in at a healthy ~127 proof, the nose is baking spices and marshmallows while the palate is a punch of cherry, cinnamon candies and vanilla. A lingering finish of baking spices and honey.

Day 7 of #BourbonHeritageMonth and it’s time for a #HighProof delight.
@oldforester is a time-honored #distillery with several expressions worthy of choosing today (including the delicious ‘1920’ from their Distillery Row Series). In 2020, OF started their #BarrelProof #SingleBarrel releases. These can be difficult to find at times, but well worth the #BourbonHunt.
OF bourbons use a mashbill of 72% corn/18% rye/12% barley. The single barrels vary in age, rickhouse location and proof, but always deliver taste and quality.

Nose: Caramelized banana, vanilla and citrus
Palate: Caramel, vanilla, charred oak and banana
Finish: Sweet and spicy with vanilla, caramel and oak that lingers.

Banana is a sensory note often encountered with OF expressions, especially high proof and/or well-aged. While other single barrels you may find may have slightly different flavors, the notes above will be found in all their barrel-proof single barrel bourbon releases. These barrel-proof single barrels pop up at liquor stores periodically and often sell-out quickly. It’s worth keeping an eye open. They commonly run ~$100/bottle, but our recommendation is to buy without hesitation if you see one.
Best enjoyed neat, over ice or with a bit of water given these can regularly hit 130+ proof. Cheers, friends!
